Air Passengers from Delhi to pay additional fee from March 1

Hindustan Times

Quote:
The government on Monday approved additional fee of Rs.200 on all domestic passengers and Rs.1,300 per head on those bound overseas from the airport in the national capital as access development charges to its developer.

The development fee will be paid to the Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), which has the Bangalore-based infrastructure major GMR and the state-run Airports Authority of India as principal promoters.
Quote:
Domestic passengers already pay Rs.375 to fly out of Hyderabad's new airport, while international passengers have been paying a fee of Rs.1,000, ever since the airport started operations early last year.

The government last month had also allowed the Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) to charge user development fee of Rs.260 from domestic and Rs.1,000 from passengers bound overseas.

Last weekend, GMR troupe was in Goa for the IPL auction, a show of riches and glamour. Last year, GMR lost about 9 crores at the IPL.

I know, this UDF fee was a part of the agreement in the contract, but when the economy is going down, people are losing their jobs, airfares have gone down, this fee should have gone down too.

These fee is only for flying out provided it has not already been collected for Bangalore airport. You could check on the ticket.

Once things settle in Delhi (as in Hyderabad), the ticket will include these 'taxes'. Till then, I presume they will collect the fee at the airport when one departs Delhi.

I am already trying to tighten my belt, it is bad news to hear that I will have to pay nearly twenty pounds extra to leave Delhi.

Of course it is nothing compared to the cost of my flight, but I could hardly afford that and with my boyfriend living in Delhi I have little choice but to visit regularly.

If it applies to all international flights, it will add a huge amount onto the cost of visiting Nepal!

I thought this had been in operation for some months. My Tiger ticket does not make it clear - simply refers to taxes and charges.

The UDF in Bangalore has been in effect from Jan 1, 2009. When I flew out in mid-Jan, they were making announcements that the passengers had to pay the fee. I checked with my airline (Dragon Air) and they had already paid it. So, some carriers are absorbing the fee. Do check before you buy that low cost ticket whether or not the UDF, if applicable, is included.

I am not surprised. To the Govt, people flying overseas are rolling in cash. This is not dissimilar to some weird tax they levied on people flying business and 1st class couple of years ago.

This whole ADF business freaks me out. Once the contract is awarded to GMR, why should there be any more concessions? So what if they can't get through enough people using the Delhi Airport?

If GMR made more money in future years, becuase the traffic exceeded their estimates, will they refund the surplus?

It is so infuriating. The whole industry is shady, be it airlines, the people running airports or the Civil Aviation Ministry.

The fuel surcharge was levied when crude was selling at $147/barrel. The crude is now below $40 and yet the surcharge exists. These guys are purely in the business of fleecing the flying public. No less

The best part is after collecting the fuels surcharge, some of these airlines have not even paid their fuel bills.

Does the Rs 200 domestic charge applies to the people that are landing in Delhi on a domestic flight or is it only for
departures?

AND...it has to be one if not THE crappiest airports in asia as well. a real embarrassment as the nations capital.

where is the 'new' new delhi airport??? i have to laugh when i read/hear from the outside about how india is modernizing. the tech infrastructure, roads, airports...graft is so deep the nation will never go anywhere - it reminds me of philippines, indonesia and cambodia. not malaysia or singapore.

c'mon rs2300 to fly out of delhi? what a joke.

i guess this has been put in place as to assist the 'incredible india' tourist promotion scheme ;-) <<--- india had better watch out because when indonesia cranked up the fees for visas and airport taxes they literally lost their tourism industry save for bali. india is in a VERY similar situation...it has things to offer but they take effort. the poverty can be grinding and the people can be overbearing. its so easy for tourists to select say thailand for a month - pay half that in departure taxes, new airport, free visa (30days). i have e feeling that this is directed at NRI and 'wealthy' indians (those that CAN fly) - the idiots that put this in place care not a wit about the nation or its people.

ive seen this attitude with government officials in cambodia in dealing with ngo's. if you need govt approval - you pay. if you dont want to pay, you dont get the program off the ground. saving hundreds of lives - no matter. pay to play - period. the hand of graft cares only for itself.

india is fast starting to look like the philippines. the similarities are striking. that is a wholly broken nation that will never go anywhere but down.
