DH News Service HONNALI, August 6

Here is a teacher who refused to wait for State and Central government programmes to improve the school. He has done it with his own money and taught Kannada to many students who did not know the language.

In Machiogondanahalli tanda in Honnali taluk, Mr S Chadrashekharappa, who has been a teacher in the Higher primary school there, has won an award for his service. And the school has won the best school award.

When Mr Chandrashekharappa was transferred to this school, there were 36 children in the school. All of them belonged to Banjara caste. All of them spoke only Lambani language. They were all poor and came to school in torn clothes.

The kind teacher brought cloth for all of them, got it stitched at his own expense by bringing a tailor to the school.
