23yr old british volunteer Micheal found dead near Dharamshala on 28/11/06

30/11/06

Micheal was a bright 23year old guy whom I co volunteered with for an NGO in aug'06. Hence it has shocking that my friend is no more and it has rattled me a great deal, cos he wasnt the kind who would hurt a fly.

He had an amazing grasp of statistics which he was implementing for research and data analysis in the community work which he was involved with. He was a clean guy who wouldnt even drink or do drugs. He had sought to leave the cushy confines of his home country & instead walk miles and run the medical camp for the poor nomads and manage the day to day admin of the office too at times.

It is rather unfortunate that his dead body was found near St. Johns church, half a km from dharam shala. The police is not forthcoming with any information and the british consul office(DELHI)is monitoring the situation in consultation with higher himachal police officials, but as yet there are no leads.

I sincerely request all of you to kindly be forthcoming with any information if any of u have in this regard and to spread the word to enable my dear friends soul get justice.

I humbly request youll to atleast ensure that this not buried in police files and the case doesnt die a silent death like my friend.

Its pathetic. Please keep this thread going so that the case does not dry up from our minds, and this at least there could be a possibility of keeping an eye on the things.

I read in the paper that he may have been stoned to death, it seems like a strange way to be killed.

It would help if we posted some links to legitimate news sources. I am assuming, these reports relate to the same incident listed below?

Yes, it's the same incident.

Michael James Blakey, 23 from Burnley, UK.

He was found with stone injuries to the head and face.

many people have been questioned, police said, not ruling out rivalry as a motive.

What rivalry could a foreigner have with any damn soul there!!! This is shocking!!

No matter how painful the death had been to himself but that pain is nothing compared to the pain his loved ones and friends are in now!!Heck!!!!

Very sorry, Anil: sympathy to you and your friend's family.

Does anyone have any local news coverage? I've not seen anything here, but It may well not get into the Southern press.
