Which route?!

Hi,

I am teaching in Sri Lanka until mid December and so will be flying into India from Columbo mid December 2008 - I need to end up in a place called Kalimpong, (nearest airport is Bagdora), in February 2009, where I will be teaching again...so I think I will get there from New Delhi.

Basically, between December 08 and Feb 09 (2 months), I hope to travel around India and am unsure which route will be best and where to fly to from Columbo... whether to start North or South and which cities to visit?
I will be 24 years old, and want to be able to meet other travelers...and even (if possible), travel with people I meet - See both busy cities, temples and the rural areas (not too demanding am I??!

The areas that I am really keen to see are... Bangolore,Goa, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Darjeeling... I think - But I am really open to suggestions, and am not sure about if I will be able to get it all in, in 2 months...?

Any help that you...(or anyone) can offer, is massivly appriated - I am very excited - but a little wary of the time I will be traveling - and want to take the right route...THANKS...

Since your in Sri Lanka for awhile and it's green and lush like the south of India, you might want to see a little different scenery, so more north in India might be good for a change.

Here's a quick idea of mine that I think would give you a good taste.

First forget Bangalore. Why do you want to go there?

Madurai to Ooty to Mysore to Hampi to Goa to Mumbai to Rajashtan to Delhi/Agra to Varanasi to Calcutta to Dajeeling to Kalimpong.
