Which direction to take in South India in October to miss the rain?

My partner and I will be arriving in Delhi on 2nd October. We have already planned a week for the Golden Triangle with Namaste tours, following advice seen on this site. We aim to leave Delhi on Wednesday 8th October.

We had originally planned to fly to Trivandrum on the 8th and then do the main areas including Kochi, Kerala and up the coast before switching in to Hampi and Bangalore etc. We are planning to fly out of either Chennai or Bangalore to Singapore around the 6th November. Fairly standard stuff along the way, which we aren't planning too closely as we want to leave ourselves the option of staying in a couple of places if we want. We don't feel the need to 'see it all' if this means never taking the time to chill out.

We must have at least 110 different possible itineraries thanks to all the different posts given.

Having got to the point of booking flights we have found that we can save £130 by flying to Bangalore instead of Trivandrum, which doesn't bother us other than our worry about avoiding as much of the Monsoon as possible.

Ultimately, my question is:

Is it better to go counterclockwise from Bangalore from 8th of October arriving through Kerala, Kochi etc. end of October or to go direct to Trivandrum so that we go clockwise and are in Bangalore at end of October?

Or, are we worried about something that won't make a difference either way.

Hmmm... hopes this all makes sense.

Going to Tvm and returning to Bangalore would be better, as you would be doing pretty much the same route twice otherwise. Unless you want to be a little adventurous and go to Kerala via one route (say Tvm via Madurai) and return another way (say, via Wayanad). Flying to Tvm would give you more time to make your way upward, so would be more relaxed.

The returning monsoon (in October) is not as bad as the arriving one, it usually only rains in the evenings during that time.

Thank you. I don't think that going to Kerala twice would be the best use of our time.

I would take the option of Flying out of Bangalore

Yes, Flying into Tvndm makes sence, you have ample time to have a good look around Kerala, you
could then take an O'Night train to Goa and then
go to Hampi and then onto Bangalore.

So in otherwords Clockwise from Tvndm.

If you want to Exit from Chennai, I sugest you fly into Bangalore, then go to Hospet(train)Bus to Hampi, bus back to Hospet, train to Goa-Train to
Kochi,Hire car & driver to Take you around Kerala
Finishing in Tvndm, from Tvndm catch train to Chennai, after a few days relaxing in Kovalam.

I think the first option will give you some chill out time(Kovalam) after your first Leg around Golden Triangle Tour to recharge the Batteries and
then See Kerala.

All the Best

Cool

Thank you Vandy.

It looks like we will stick with plan A then. We did think that we would need a bit of time in Kovalam to recover from Delhi and to acclimatise more to India before we move up the coast.

Here's to Kerala in October then - perhaps we will bump into each other after all.
