Bon Giorno Cele,

Tell us first where you will arrive and leave (by air) and how much time you can spend in India.

Hans

This is my personal opnion on these places. Other people will have different opinions.

Bangalore:
Nothing to see. Only useful as a travel hub. Dont spend any time there. (sorry Bangalore!)

Mysore:
Great town. Has a fantastic market(look on YouTube). Really good place for silk and incense shopping. World Class vegetarian thalis.
Outstanding bird sanctuary nearby.

Wayanad:
Very nice rural area, which is ideal for taking a week to explore at a very leisurely pace. Nothing spectacular, subtle atmosphere, friendly people. Wildlife Sanctuary is less pressured than many. Not a place for a hasty visit.

Calicut:
Dont know a thing about it.

Chocin:
Either love it or hate it. I LOVE IT. Not like anywhere else in India. Very well set up for western tourists. Very laid back. Fort Cochin is the tourist area, which can be seen in a day. Also has an atmospheric trade / export area, and good fun walking around the canal area. There is also a nice beach at Vypeen about 45mins away.

Allepey:
Good place to do a 24hr houseboat trip and explore the backwaters.

Munnar:
Cooler, lots of cloud, mist and tea plantations. The town is not much, but the views can be great. Good place to walk and explore.

Kodalkkanal:
Attracts lots of Indian tourists, only a few western tourists (who attract a lot of attention from the Indian tourists). Has great views and can do some good trekking around there.

If these are the places you are thinking of cutting out, then where are the places you are definately going?

Mysore 2 days
Wayanad 3 days +/-
Cochin 1 day +/-
Backwaters 2 days

Maybe forget Alleppy, and see the backwaters from Cochin side
It will be too much travelling to get to Munnar & Kodai. Unless you are going to Madurai as well.

No reason to go to Calicut.

Oh you will love MUnnar and Kodai-- dont give them the chop --- the national park in Munnar and the plantations in Kodai-- are well worth it.

If you want to finish off Mysore in one day, then my advise is to take KSTDC ( Karnataka State Tourism Corporation ) volvo a/c bus. Not sure how much they charge..must be within Rs 1000/-. But they will cover all the places in Mysore / Srirangapatnam / KRS garden. The bus leaves bangalore at around 06:30am and they will cover approx 10-13 places and will be back to bangalore at around midnight. KRS dam or Brindavan garden (what ever u want to call) would be the last place in their list of places they would show. since you are going to kerala further, you might probably get down and take another transport to back to mysore as mysore is near to kerala. KRS dam is almost some 20kms away from mysore on the way to bangalore. Majority of people in this bus would be foreigners.

keep bangalore only as a transit option and go to one of the much-hyped pubs, just for memory sake...

i would say leave out wayanad, and calicut...

cochin is heaven...
so is munnar...
and ofcourse kodai, as always...
mysore is a must...

and if u have to make a full circle of pondicherry - bangalore - mysore - cochin - alleppey - munnar - kodai (assuming u do leave out wayanad and calicut) well, try and include a day or two to coorg (bylakuppe, dubare, madikeri n kakabe in that order)

i know i've only possibly added to the confusion, but coorg is more than heaven, and it's in your route... don't miss it...

cheers...!

Forget Bangalore, Wayanad and Calicut and enjoy the rest.
