KS, Is Wagah border on your list ?
Keep posting.

I think most of the IM members will have a dream to do a journey like KS.

Ronak: Just today I was describing the "beating the Retreat" show at Wagah to my friend and we decided that apart from Golden temple we shall also do Wagah Border!

Aishah: While consulting the Hotel Mgr in Bikaner, he was hard selling that Temple as "World Famous Site" and a must-see... but somehow the thought of seeing many Rats running around made us very Queasy ..... (like Tom's Owner-Keeper Lady ... i mean Tom as in Tom & Jerry cartoons .... I am reminded, again, of the hilarious scene when Tom chased Jerry up her skirt, while she was tottering on a high stool... and Tom had to pay dearly for that mistake). BTW: yesterday just as we were leaving Jaisalmer at 7:00AM there was a light drizzle! never dreamed will see a bit of rain in your home town!

Capt M: When you do your GIRT let me know .... I might join if it covers part of the internal areas of India that we are missing on this trip.

Shyamal- Yes, Gadisar Lake boating was on! .... many honey-mooning couples were on the paddle boats ... we as 60-year-olds decided not to do that ourselves & let those couples have some private enjoyment!

Somebody recently visited that Rat Temple and said all the rats were sleeping or hovering over saucers of milk. She thought there must have been marijuana in the milk. They just weren't scampering anywhere!
Rain the other day - yes, it surprised us all. Short-lived though - cloudy all day but not many drops. Today is back to sunshine and warmer.

KSB's passion for IM, India travel, trekking, photography has many fans including me. EBC trek is the highlight of his never ending journey. & would you believe, he is still in the middle of his GIRT & is planning to do another one with Capt.

Hats off to you sir. I would like to follow your path some day.

Ronak.

PS: Rat temple does sound interesting to me.

Another with Captain? Great.

After completion of GIRT, I was to suggest ksb to consider GHRT (Great Himalayan Road Travel) - a replication of ( or on the lines of) the one undertaken by Keki Daruwalla, Ashok Dilwali and others in 2003.

Riding the Himalaya by Keki N Daruwalla;
published by Niyogi Books, New Delhi; Price Rs.795/-.
I bought this book from Strand Books, Fort.

This is a travelogue of a car-trek starting from Delhi going upto Siachin Glacier turning via Lahul, Sipti, Garhwal, Kumaon, Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram to Kibitho in Arunachal and ending at Kolkatta covering a distance of about 14000 kms. The book contains beautiful pictures by Ashok Dilwali.

from Amritsar

25th Dec 2007

.... Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all IM-ers.

Today we reached Amritsar at 1:00PM from Sri-Ganganagar. In the evening we went to Wagah Border to see the Retreat Ceremony. Huge patriotic crowd! On Both sides of the border!!

Tomorrow, morning, we will see Golden Temple and Jalianwalla Bagh ... and then hopefully start off towards Delhi doing 300Kms or so and stop. Then will bye-pass Delhi to Agra where we stop for maybe 2 nights.

from Karnal (Haryana)

26th Dec. 6:25PM (from Karnal)

After seeing Golden Temple (really golden, beautiful & clean) and Jalianwalla Bagh today morning we left Amritsar and drove 333Kms down and made a stop here at Karnal. Tomorrow we shall start early and go all the way to Agra (by-passing Delhi). We are now a day ahead of original plan.

So far everything is going fine; only a minor tyre-puncture right in front of a tyre-repair shop, at place called Sukhi. The Sikh guy there was fast...he repaired and replaced the tire in 5 minutes flat!!

I had several Kesar-Malai-Lassi's at "Agra Sweets" (in Jodhpur, opp Sojti-Gate)... really YUM. I "ate" 2-3 at a time, surprising the owner there! Also had Lassi at Amritsar. Dont know if any of those were made in a washing machine! ... KSB

There used to be a few, approx 3 years ago.

Made lassi in a small semi automatic machine and used the 'drain' (valve affixed) to pour it out in your glass.

Enquiries about whether underwear was washed overnight in it was met with tough guy stares from enormous Sikhs.
