If accosting him on the road and talking to him a few times, and greeting him while passing a few other times counts as knowing him, then the answer is yes. Anybody can walk up to him and chat him up, he's that affable and decent. He only dislikes being visited without warning at home, espesh during his nap-time (no, not a personal revelation - read this in an interview of his). Which is why I suggest an introductory letter in advance, espesh since your purpose is more in-depth and not the usual fawn-and-autograph type. And Aishah's idea is also good, though he won't be that regular in winter. I think the once-weekly is also more a summer thing.

Well that includes all Ruskins and all Bonds as well.
But even "Ruskin Bond" brings up 56000 pages. Enough to get started on, heheh.

Actually, I seriously do want to meet Ruskin in Landour ... and get his autograph on several of his books for my son (Gautam, age-23)
Hi, I had the opportunity to see him at his residence. He is an utmost simple person and a delight to chat. Of course I did not face any problems / difficulties to get his time, though I also did not have any contact info to make a schedule. His house is just a very simple and ordinary Indian's house. This happened in 2004.

I did not get the autographs, but I did shoot a couple of pics, right in his study room.

Dilliwalla - Yes, in person. He is very friendly, a real gentleman, and what impressed me was the amount of time and advice he gives to children.
