What to do last few days in Kerala??

Here´s our preliminary itinerary:

Flight to Cochin via Mumbai
2 nights / 3 days in Cochin
Train or taxi to Varkala - which one do you recommend?
4 nights in Varkala
Train Varkala- Kottayam
2 nights in a Backwaters hotel in Alleppey or Kumarakom

And then, what to do the last 3 days and 2 nights in Kerala before heading back to Mumbai???

Alternatives:

- taxi from Alleppey to Munnar end for example 1 night in Munnar and another close to Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary to be closer to airport (early flight)

- 1 night in Kettuvallam Houseboat and another in Cochin (shopping?) and then to airport (but on the other hand we have already been to Cochin in the beginning so do not fancy this option)

- 2 nights in Cherai Beach hotel?

or what? suggestions?

how about trying an ayurvedic treatment? ayur dara, near fort cochin is a great place.

Lilli888, have you intentionally left out Munnar and Thekkady/Periyar Tiger Reserve? If not, since you have 3 extra days even after spending adequate time in all the other destinations, I would suggest you include Munnar and Thekkady too.

One possible itinerary would be :-

Flight to Cochin via Mumbai
2 nights / 3 days in Cochin
Taxi to Munnar
2 nights/ 3 days in Munnar
Taxi to Thekkady
1 night/ 2 days in Thekkady
Taxi to Alleppey/Kumarakom
One night in Backwaters Hotel
Train to Varkala
3 nights in Varkala
Train to Cochin
Flight from Cochin to Mumbai

If you do want to try out a day-long Ayurvedic treatment or massage like mitzijanell suggested, both Varkala and Cochin/Fort Kochi has good treatment centres.
