Well now that I've bored all my friends to death with talk of India
I finally got an itinerary together for my second trip to India but I think all sentient beings within hearing of the the sound of my voice now have their eyes glaze over when I once again natter on about my upcoming trip(not that that stops me).Heaven forfend I go to a funeral.I'd probably bring my maps to show the grieving widow.I'm the fellow that at the age of 55 had never been outside North America, decided on the spur of the moment to visit India and had such a good time that I'm going back for seconds. That despite spending a few days being sick as a dog in a delhi hotel(doing my impression of Linda Blair in the Exorcist) and a series of transit misadventures that culminated in finding that the train I had been on for ten hours was actually going in the wrong direction! But this time it will be all different. This time it will be more "the sophisticated traveller" and less "Inspector Clouseau Does Delhi".
This Friday I'm kissing the Canadian winter goodbye for a nine week trip.First to Mandrem,Goa for a week, then Aurangabad(3 days),Khajuraho(3),Orccha(4),V aranasi(7),Bodh Gaya and environs(7),Assam(9-guwahati,Kaziranga,Majuli Island),Meghalaya(6),Darjeelin g(3)Sikkim(7) and finally 5 days in Kolkata at the Fairlawn.I want to thank everyone at IM who answered my questions individually and everyone else who contributed generally to the great cache of info that can be retrieved here. All those seeming
misadventures (but isn't that what it comes down to; if you can handle them - India's got ya!) and you're going back. Welcome to the club! Just think how bored your friends will be when you start talkin' up that third trip . . . and fourth . . . Safe Travels

Your train trip reminds me of the first time I nudged the speedometer needle over 100MPH --- and simulataneously realised I was going in the wrong direction!
Or of the friend of mine who took a train to Italy... She found herself in Yugoslavia. But getting back to India... I once met the only full-trained, white-English Kathakali Makeup artist, and asked her story... She'd got off her Kerala train at the wrong stop, run into this troupe --- and never left! |

good for you!! I am in the preliminary stages of planning my THIRD TRIP, and like you, I was never outside North America until I went to India for the first time after I had been around the sun over 50 times...but I am fabulously ageless so I won't say how old I am! ![]() |

Hi Yogagal,
The third trip, good for you! I was the new comer you met last fall at Chicago meet up. I had a great trip, now I am hoping to go back in a couple years. Hopefully we can have another meet up after all the snow! Good luck! |

Just heard on our local radio: 4 degrees wind chill, 25 mph winds, hundreds of flights canceled at the airport...I'd say it is a good time to go to India. :-) Have fun!

Just maybe - is this the same Canadian who enjoyed an unexpected visit to Mandu in March 06 as a result of such a misadventure ? : ) |
