Below, you will find details of how to find trains.

If you're going to Rishikesh, try searching for trains from VARANASI JN to HARIDWAR (closest mainline station to Rishikesh)

There are some faster trains that don't go all the way to Haridwar, they call at either LAKSAR JN or ROORKEE, both are about 25-30kms from Haridwar, some of these faster trains don't run daily, so be sure to check for different days when you search.

If you're going to Shimla, you need to check trains from MUGHAL SARAI JN (about 18kms from Varanasi) to KALKA, from Kalka you need to get the scenic hill railway to SIMLA.

You can also look for trains from VARANASI JN to AMBALA CANT JN, and change trains at Ambala for a KALKA bound train.

If no attractive options are found, try searching for a train from VARANASI JN to MORADABAD, then another train from MORADABAD to HARIDWAR (for Rishikesh) or CHANDIGARH (for train to Kalka).

Atractive 2-train options can also be found via LUCKNOW

For all train searches, use the exact station names I've used, just copy and paste them.

Go to the following page.

http://www.indianrail.gov.in/inet_srcdest_names.html

Source Station Name - VARANASI JN

Destination Station Name – HARIDWAR

Class - All Class

Then click on Get It.

(Indian Railways is now 'day of week' sensitive, so if the journey you plan to take will be on a Monday, make sure you enter a date that is also a Monday to view all trains that run on a Monday)

onto next page........to get availability.

Click on circle next to train number.

Please check Days Of Run as not all trains are daily.

Look at top left of screen.....

Enter Your Journey Date - 20 - Oct. (for example)

Enter Quota - General or Foreign Tourist Quota

Look at the top right of the screen for Classes, click on the circle next to the class you want (make sure it's on the same line as the train you want).

Then click on Get Availability

If you want to see a few different dates for the same train, do not select a date, the site will give you the availability for the selected train for the next 6 times it runs, and then the next 6 and so on.

This site can be slow.
