Varanasi itinerary?

Hi People.
I am really stuck, trying to fit a trip to Varanisi in.Since my earlier posts i have severed lots.We land at Delhi late on 01/03/07.where we are booked until the Sunday 4th.We do not have to be in Delhi again until March 22nd/lunch-time for our Kingfisher flight to Kochi(via Mumbai). My Wife and I would really like to visit Varanisi, but we also want to go to Amritsar for at least 2-4 days, then go from Pathankot to Manali area/Kullu
preferably by toy train, enjoy as much of this area as possible before getting back for the flight at Delhi. As I have a slow pace with back and knee probs, I would prefer a taxi and driver over a bus,We love train travel, and we can budget for a couple of hunderd pounds each for more internal flights if neeed be.
After all, it is our first trip here.We are very flexible regards anything within this time frame.Would a circular journey ticket on the trains be better for us/, or perhaps the break of journey rules will help us? Which way round would be best?
Here is my rough itinery which could be reversed or "played" with
without days/dates.
Delhi-Agra/Jaipur-Varanisi-Amritsar/Bhuntar/Dharamsala,manali area Return for flight..Or Delhi-Amritsar-Pathankot-Bhagsu/Manali area-return to Delhi for Jaipur Agra.Varanisi and back again.Would this trip be difficult within the 21 days? I am finding it quite difficult to make a circuit.
Thanks for any advice friends,
Martin and Dawn.
U.K.

Hi Martin, I think you are trying to do too much especially considering your health, i would never talk anyone out of visiting Varanasi, but if i were you i'd skip it on this occasion. One option could be going back to Delhi then flying there & back there are some very cheap flights around in India with the new budget airlines.
Did i tell you that the toy train from Pathankot to Kangra also goes from Kangra to Jogindernagar it's a beautiful journey through the Kangra valley but a bit slower than the bus from Jogindernagar it's 1-2 hrs by taxi/bus to Mandi, where you could stay at the Raj Mahal hotel a real olde worlde place, there are over 100 old temples in Mandi mainly by the river.
On your way back from Manali you could stop at Shimla (Old raj British summer capital)where there is another toy train which you could take as far as Kasauli stay there o/night then next day cab to Chandigarh where you can get a train back to Delhi.
Or to save time you could fly from Bhuntar in the Kullu valley back to Delhi, but this flight can be unreliable mine was cancelled last year without warning. KK

fitting in Varanisi!

Thanks Kullukid,
I guess your probably right, part of the frustration, i still think i can do these simple things.
As a newbie on p.c. iv`e even posted this in the wrong place!
Varanisi is a place we don`t really want to give up.Probably, the answer, as you say is to fly there and back whilst in Delhi.
