Hi Akansha,
We haven't tried yet for hotels. Our plan is to look for them on run time. Fellow Indiamiken's have told that there are many options to stay. Our current plan is to reach Ghangaria on day 2 (In case we would not be able to make it, we will halt at govindghat), so no stoppage in Joshimath.

I guess you are also going around 15th August?? Happy Travelling.

Regards
Rohit

Rohit, why are you going via Haldwani...? That route is long and the road condition definitely leaves a lot to be desired, especially in the rains... If you don't want to go straight on NH-58 via Haridwar - Rishikesh - Deoprayag - Srinagar, you can go direct to Kotdwar - Dugadda - Pauri - Srinagar and then carry on the NH-58...!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for the reply Solo_Trekker. I travel very frequently on Delhi-Rishikesh highway as I belong to Rishikesh, thats the reason why we are planning to go via some other route. Just want to explore other routes as well

I was doing some R&D on the routes via which one can reach Govindghat from Delhi. There are three possible routes.
Route1-Noida-Rishikesh-Srinagar-Joshimath-Govindghat= 416 KMs
Noida-Rishikesh = 225 KMs
Rishikesh-Srinagar= 70 KMs
Srinagar-Govindghat= 121 KMs
I am not sure about the distance between Rishikesh and Govindghat. Maps of India (http://www.mapxl.com/path-finder/map...config=routing shows distance to be 190 KMs. But others indicate it to be around 260KMs.

Route2-Noida-Ranikhet-Govindghat= 434 KMs
Noida-Ranikhet = 286 KMs
Ranikhet-Govindghat = 148 KMs

Route3-Noida-Kotdwar-Dogadda-Pauri-Govindghat= 380 KMs

Route3 is the shortest route.

Any info about the road conditions of route3?
Also, how late a person can leave Rishikesh for Srinagar in the evening?

A piece of advice for the people how are going to travel on Delhi-Rishikesh route-- Road conditions not so good, you need to be careful while driving because as construction is going on, you never now when a straight road would get diverted to next lane. Please don't overspeed.

I m planing to track the VOF by this 12'-Aug'11
But I have a limited days 12th Aug to 16th morning leave not granded by office.

My Plan chart as below..
12th Eve 4:30 start from delhi to Hardwar.
13th Morning 3/4 AM start from Hardwar to Govinghat.
to Ghagaria.
14th Ghagaria to VOF to Govinghat. (Start early 3/4 AM)
15th Govinghat to Rishikesh
16th Rishikesh to Delhi (Will leave Rishikesh in the eve of 15th so that we can attend the office)

I have one query:
If I suppose manage to reach Govindghat at around 3PM, Will I be allowed to trek to Ghangria on the same day? ( same query in return also)

1st day : start from lohajung to govindghat via karnaprayag..
2nd day: Govindghat to ghangria...
3rd day: Ghangria to valley of flowers to ghangria back to govindghat ..

NOw all I have to ask is ....

1. Is the 3rd day is doable?
2. If yes ..then time taken to return back from ghangria to govindghat?
3. Is it permissible to pitch tent at valley of flowers?

we are going 2nd wk of june? will we see flowers ?

It's doable though would depend on a few things (am counting on rain mostly). When distance is large; start early to keep ample buffer; good part is that ghangria to govindghat is mostly downhill. A friend did same 3 years back.

I doubt you can pitch tents at VOF (though my hazy memory I read some where it's not allowed).

VOF best blossoms around Mid July, Aug.

some more queries...
Is there any luxury bus available from haridwar/rishikesh to joshimath or govindghat? Or the shared sumo will be comfortable enough? will be overloaded? how many passengers they carry? what is the cost of hiring an indica or tavera for one side journey i.e. haridwar/rishikesh to joshimath or govindghat?

Any specific reason you're taking the Haldwani route? Because you can easily save 150 kms of travel via the more normal Haridwar-Rishikesh route. The time saved thus would act as a buffer for landslides and roadblocks. Just saying.
