Valley of flowers

Hi,

Am planning a trip to valley of flowers this aug. Wanted some info on the cheapest way to travel from Delhi/Agra to this place and min how many days would be required.

Would august first week be ideall to plan this trip. Also do we have to go along with these group trip arrangers. Or can we wander alone in this valley. Max to max we would be three of us who would be travelling.

Thanks for all the help in advance!

The cheapest way i guess would be train to haridwar and onwards by bus to Govidghat via Joshimath. Then via foot to Ghangharia as ya base.

Vidya, I and my fiance made the trip to the VOF last year from 10-22 August. From Bangalore, we took a flight to Delhi. Then a night bus from ISBT to Haridwar. It starts from ISBT at around 9:30 and reached haridwar at around 7 am. At haridwar, we took another local bus to Rishikesh. Freshened up and had breakfast at the GMVN guesthouse on the by-pass road ad then took a jeep from the jeepstand a short walk from the guesthouse. We had earlier planned Joshimath but we made it only till Rudraprayag. Stayed at GMVN here too. Took a mini bus from Rudraprayag to Joshimath. Got stuck in two bad landslided. Ran across one with backpacks on and nearly got killed! Please dont do that, seriously. Camped at Joshimath that night. nexct morning took a jeep to Gobindghat. From then on its your own horsepower or khachchad-pwer, lol, that takes you up to Ghanghria and VOF and hemkund Sahib! It will be raining a ,lot but then the flowers are also in full bloom during this time only. Pretty soon, in some days, I will put up that travelogue on my blog and you can read about it all in detail. All the best!

P.s Please don't forget to take raincoats, a pair of spare shoes , if possible and two pairs of spare socks. the thick cotton variety will do very well, no need for woolen socks.

Hiya...

Just a couple of things you need to note :

1. The earlier you leave Haridwar, the better... The first bus for Joshimath leaves around 5.00 a.m. If you leave by 5.00-5.30 a.m., you have a chance of making it right upto Govindghat the first day itself... Thatz so as the Gates at Joshimath close by around 4.30 p.m. for the day - no vehicles are allowed after that... In any case, it doesn't make much of a difference, as the other buses will also reach Joshimath and the same bus will leave for Govindghat / Badrinath at 6.00 a.m.

2. Try and get a seat on the left-side of the bus if you wanna watch the amazing views - it's a landscape scenery right through... Initially you'll have the Ganges on the right-hand side, but after you cross over the Alaknanda just before Srinagar, you have the Alaknanda on your left-hand side for close to 6-7 hours...!

3. If you plan to do both VOF and Hemkund Sahib, do ensure you do the VOF the first day... Helps in acclimatization...

For more details, tips about the place, stay, the trek, the flowers, the rains, et all, do ensure you check out :

Cheers...!
