Udaipur to Aurangabad to Mumbai

Finishing up a tour in Udaipur on Tuesday, February 28 and joining another Tour in Mumbai very late on March 3 in Mumbai. Could fly from Udaipur to Mumbai, sit in airport for a long time and then fly up to Aurangabad for two nights and return to Mumbai. Are there any other alternatives? Train, bus or other? Or is there a good alternative place to go for those few days?

You should fly from Udaipur to Mumbai and spend March 1 and 2 in Mumbai. No point rushing to Aurangabad for two days and returning to Mumbai to join another tour. Take it easy in Mumbai.

Aurangabad (ie, Ellora and Ajanta) are absolutely worth visiting, and you seem to have the required two days.

I suggest flying to Mumbai, and if you can, try and fly into Aurangabad the same evening. If that's not possible, there are very convenient overnight trains from Mumbai to Aurangabad and back, which allow you to spend to full days visiting E&A.

Thanks for the comments. I was just trying to avoid sitting in the Mumbai airport any longer than necessary.

May have to contact my former employer (who was responsible for the Mumbai control tower system) and see if I can get a tour.

Dear spd4trains,
Perhaps, you take overnight train from Udaipur to Ahmedabad and then take another train to Jalgaon, which is 165 Kms. away from Aurangabad. However, in between you will find the famous Ajanta Caves (105 Kms. away from Aurangabad and perhaps just 60 Kms. from Jalgaon).

I took a overnight bus from Udaipur to Mumbai, stayed there and took an another bus to Aurangabad. From there hired taxi for the both caves and took a train from Jalgaon to Ahmalabad and further to Udaipur.

The caves are really worth seeing.

Udaipur-Mumbai by Volvo bus will take the whole night. If I remember correctly it lefts around 4 pm and arrived at 6 am. From Mumbai it left 8 pm and arrived around 6 am. The Volvo bus is quite comfortable.

In all, you have consumed 14 Hours for Udaipur-Mumbai journey & 10 Hours for Mumbai-Aurangabad journey (***be it a VOLVO!!!) and waited in Mumbai for 14 Hours., thus aggregating to 38 Hours.

Indiafan Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: India Posts: 225	I took a overnight bus from Udaipur to Mumbai, stayed there and took an another bus to Aurangabad. From there hired taxi for the both caves and took a train from Jalgaon to Ahmalabad and further to Udaipur. The caves are really worth seeing. Enjoy!

Indiafan Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: India Posts: 225	Udaipur-Mumbai by Volvo bus will take the whole night. If I remember correctly it lefts around 4 pm and arrived at 6 am. From Mumbai it left 8 pm and arrived around 6 am. The Volvo bus is quite comfortable.
