Udaipur to Amritsar best way?
Specs:
Trip: 2/22-3/15 Arrive/Depart: Deli Mom (55) and Daughter (19) First Time To India / Excited!! Have Traveled Europe, Egypt/No Tour/Independent Budget: Medium-High Preliminary Plan: Deli/Agra/Jaipur/Jodhpur/Udaipur/Amritsar/Dharamshala.... What is the best way to get from Udaipur to Amritsar?? Travel date would be March 9, 2008. Give or take a day. We are flexible at this point. Is there an overnight train??? Jetair has a flight but it is $322 per person. Could do it but want to check if there is a better way. Thank you for yur help. Last edited by machadinha : Oct 22nd, 2007 at 21:22. Reason: adjusted title |

Hi Betty,
There aren't any direct trains from Udaipur to Amritsar, you'd need to change in Delhi. You could do it more simply backwards, starting with D'sala, then Amritsar, from where you can get direct to Agra by train. Then Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur and then there's a direct train back from Udaipur to Delhi. See www.indiagroove.com for ideas and also check out the train thread. I hope that's helpful. |

If it is possible to change your plan to Delhi-Agra-Jodhpur-Udaipur-Jaipur-Amritasar....., then you can take Train No.9781/9771 which leave Jaipur @ 19.20 hours and reach Amritsar @ 09.30/13.30 the next day. These trains operate on Mon,Wed/Tue, Sat. from Jaipur.

I went round and round the Amritsar thing from all different sides - end result, we are taking an overnight trip to Amritsar from Delhi, early train up, taxi to border and back, night look at temple, day temple, wander round, 5.30 train back to Delhi. I've even decided to keep our Delhi hotel room for the night just to make it easier. All other places in Rajstahn seem to involve an overnight train to Amritsar.

Don't you wish you could teleport! The Delhi/Amritsar/Delhi trains are Shatabdi trains - which I am informed are the comfiest and fastest and include food in your ticket, so we were thinking we'd use the trips as a bit of relax time... 5 hours each way.
