Two weeks, so little time...

Oh knowledgable forum... I'll be heading out to India in early October - for the first time in eight years - and would really appreciate some advice.

My early itiniary is shaping up to look something like this...

1/10: arrive in Delhi mid-morning
2/10: overnight train to Pushkar
3/10: Pushkar
4/10: Pushkar
5/10: Jaipur
6/10: overnight train to Amritsar (arrive early morning)
7/10: Amritsar
8/10: Dalhousie
9/10 Dalhousie
10/10: McLeod Ganj
11/10: McLeod Ganj
12/10: McLeod Ganj
13/10: Simla
14/10: Simla
15/10: Delhi
16/10: fly home

As you can see, I'd like to do most of my travelling overnight, so as to maximise my time and, although I know it gets a fair bit of abuse on the forum, want to spend a chunk of time in McLeod because I've got some great memories of the place.

My question is, does this itiniary look feasible given the time frame and what, if any, improvements do you think I might be able to make? (The places I haven't been to previously are Pushkar, Dalhousie and Amritsar).

Any feedback would be wildly appreciated.

You're not trying to fit in too many places, and the weather should be good in October (a bit humid and temperatures around 25- 30) so I'd say it sounds good.

I stayed at Bharatpur Palace in Pushkar; a very nice (very clean) reasonably-priced hotel right on the lake.

Thanks for the response, Wonder Woman, and the kind advice on where to stay in Pushkar. Dalhousie is the one stop I'm not entirely sure about and, as I've already seen Simla, the temptation is to head straight to McLeod from Amritsar, then on to Manali for 3 nights (where I have been, but would like to investigate further) followed by an overnight coach all the way back to Delhi.

Do people think this sounds like too much travelling? And are there any must see reccomendations that I've overlooked?

Can I also take this opportunity to comment upon just how useful this forum, and its contributors, is - the internet was still rather coming of age the last time I set foot on Indian soil!

Thanks for the tips - most useful. 16 hours on the bus scares the bejaysus out of me, but I'm pretty good at getting my head down in trsnsit and really want to maximise my time. Am I right in assuming that there will be overnight private coaches leaving Manali for Delhi?

Yes you are right. There would be overnight buses from Manali to Delhi. The buses leave around 17:30 and reach Delhi around 19:00

Well if it takes 25.5 hours I think I'll stick to my original route! Thanks for the departure time, rajered; how long does the Dharamsala to Manali route take and would that be an overnighter as well?

The itinerary is doable. If possible avoid Simla and visit Manali.
