Travelling from Varanasi to Udaipur
Hi all
We will be in India for only 2 weeks in Dec/Jan so don't have much time to get from place to place. Can anyone recommend the best way to get from Varanasi to Udaipur in a couple of days - should we fly to Delhi and train from there or vice versa or just train all the way? Cheers |

All I can tell you is Udaipur never used to be all that easy to get to. There's been some transport changes there that you'll find doing a search here. These may make it easier on you. If not, I wouldn't do it for the 2 weeks.

More info needed.....
You can get an overnight train from Varanasi to Delhi, Agra or Bhatatpur, then get another overnight train from Delhi or Bharatpur (an hour from Fathepur Sikri, or 90 minutes from Agra). See 'Train Information' link below for train times and prices. |

ps Sorry I did a number of queries on various railways sites and got no results. That doesn't mean it's impossible, just it indicates it's as tricky as it used to be. This site's Planes, Trains, and Automobiles makes for a good start, esp. the "sticky" posts there.

btw I see now you mentioned something about flying which I tend to overlook There seems to be an airport alright http://www.toandfromtheairport.com/rajasthan.html#UDR ; http://www.airportsindia.org.in/ should be able to tell you more about it but it's currently down. Could solve all your troubles. |

Jet airways books you from Varanasi to Udaipur for Rs 7125 on a connecting flight with an overnight stop over at Delhi. I guess u'll have to fork out extra for the hotel stay.

Do make a note of the one hour difference in departure times of the Marudhar express on different days of the week. So don't miss your train !

Dear Megs,
In so far as Train Journey is concerned, please travel from Varanasi to Jaipur and then take the overnight train from Jaipur to Udaipur. It is not at all a problem to spend the time in Jaipur (**Jaipur arrival: 11:30 next morning :: Jaipur dep: 22:25), which is an important place on the Tourist Circuit. |
