Travelling from Delhi to Hardiwar
Hi.
Arriving in Delhi domestic from Mumbai and meeting a friend who is arriving Internation from Nepal. We want to meet before we take fast train to Hardiwar. Which train station is that train and where do you suggest we meet? Is the domestic airport 45min from the train? What about the international airport? We are arriving on a saturday morning and hoping to catch 11:30 express train. |

There are 3 trains from Delhi to Dehradun at 11:30 AM, two are from Hazrat Nizamuddin Station and one is from New Delhi Station. What's the Number of the train that you are on ?

thanks for responding. I am hoping to catch the express saturday only train at 11:30am called the uttaranchal express #9265. Again, trying to connect with my friend somewhere first and she arrives international at around 10:30 and I arrive domestic at 9:15am. Do we have a pray of making the train and finding each other?
Another question too....I bought a spice phone card in Amristar in February that I know I did not use all the minutes on but now need it in both Mumbai and Rishikesh. Is there a way of adding minutes to the card and using it in these areas or is it soley for Amristar locations? |

Dear Buddhagirl,
I think it'll be quite a task for you and your friend to catch this train from New Delhi Railway Station. The trail stops at Gurgaon, Delhi Cantt., Delhi Sarai Rohilla and then at New Delhi Station before proceeding forward towards Haridwar till Dehradun. The train is scheduled to reach New Delhi at 10:45 and depart at 11:30am. So, unless the train is late by atleast 2 hours or so, I don't think you'll be able to make it. You should try for the Jan Shatabdi Express which is much faster and a smoother journey which departs at 15:25 hrs from New Delhi Station. As for your mobile connection, I'ld suggest you to do away with your Spice connection and opt for a pre-paid Airtel or a Vodafone connection as these services are available at almost all corners of the country (I'm not sure about Vodafone in Rishikesh though). Moreover, you'll be able to get these connections recharged from almost anywhere in the country which is not possible with Spice. Lastly, even if you recharge your spice mobile from Amritsar and intend to use it in Rishikesh and Mumbai, you'll land up paying a lot more as Spice is not available everywhere and it'll use another service provider's network. Hope this serves your querries... Regards |

okay thanks. Can you tell me how long it will take me to get to New Delhi station from both the domestic and international airports. Is both the 11:30 express and the 4:25 express leaving from the New Delhi Station??
Great info about the cell phone too. Thank you |

What period are you thinking of? Things there (in Haridwar) will get mighty busy from next January to April, owing to a major festival (the Kumbh Mela).

Both 9265 - Uttaranchal express & 2055 Jan Shatabdi leave from New Delhi (NDLS) Railway Station only. From Airport to New Delhi Railway Station, plan for 1 hour travelling time (it should take 35-40 minutes in normal traffic).
I have noticed Vodafone billboards at Rishikesh. |

Both the trains are express trains but the Uttaranchal Express is not a superfast one. I agree with Delhiwala to plan for atleast 1 hour to reach New Delhi Railway Station from the airport though, it might take you even longer in the morning on a weekday. Moreover, your friend who'll be coming out of the International Terminal might take longer to exit. The Jan Shatabdi Express would be a safer bet and a lot more comfortable, it reaches Haridwar in about 4 hours from New Delhi.

Please note that a private vehicle would generally take atleast 7-8 hours to reach Rishikesh, apart from costing around Rs. 2500 to Rs. 3000. Moreover, do consider the fact that a train will take you only till Haridwar. You'll need to travel by road from Haridwar to Rishikesh which can set you back by another approx. 1000 bucks for a private ride. Travelling by bus is certainly cost you the least but, the journey can be very tiring as the number of Deluxe Buses from Delhi to Rishikesh are very few in numbers. Evaluate all options before you decide your path...

The Haridwar bus station is directly across the road (ish, maybe 60 metres up the road)from rail station. Rishi buses are frequent. Takes maybe 40 minutes.
