Travelling from Chandigarh To Manali

Dear All,

Myself and my wife is planning to visit Manali and around for 10 days begining from November 20th. Following is our brief plan;

November 20th Mumbai to Chandigarh by flight
November 20 - 22 2 days stay at Chandigarh
November 22 Chandigarh to Manali
November 22 -27 5 days stay at Manali
November 27th Manali to Dalhousie OR Shimila ?
November 27 - 30 2 days stay at Dalhousie OR Shimla
November 30th Chandigarh to Mumbai by flight

I would request your views and feedback on following;

a) What kind of climate can we expect between November 20 - 30?

b) What are best 3 / 4 star hotels in Chandigarh, and if possible which can provide pick up from airport?

c) What are best available option of travelling from Chandigarh to Manali. If private taxi is opted, what is the expected fare?

d) From Manali which are other options for 2 days stay that is close to Chandigarh as I would have to travel to Chandigarh back and would like to avoid long tiresome journey.

e) If Shimla is best suited, which are 4 / 5 star hotels in Shimla and can I stay at Timber Trail for these two days OR how do I visit same?

f) If any other options are available, kindly provide

Also if you can share any interesting itinerary.

Regards

1. Himachal will be pleasantly cold in last ten days of November.

2. Hotel Sunbeam is one of the best in Chandigarh and just opposite the bus station/taxi stand.

3. A private taxi from Chandigarh to Manali will charge you by the km.(640 kms. both ways) and for both ways, regardless of whether you use it for the return or not.

4. Shimla will be better than Dalhousie, as proximity to Chandigarh is a criterion.

5. Woodville Palace Resorts is a great place to stay at Shimla. You also have HPTDC's
luxury hotels - Peterhoff and Hotel Holiday Home.

6. Timber Trail Heights is a luxury resort near Parwanoo, which offers great views of Kalka and Chandigarh. Its a good place to laze around and relax, there's no sight-seeing to be done. Its chief attraction is the ropeway across the valley, used to access the Heights.

7. Do not miss the "toy" train ride from Shimla to Kalka.

Hi

If you decide for Dalhousie after all, my suggestion is to move a little further and stay at Khajjiyar, it is very beautiful and less populated than Dalhousie.

Hello ,I can warmly recommend Hotel Corporate Inn,it is in sector 17-A,we spent a night there in June, very nice people and a lovely clean hotel. If you have time and you enjoy a beer try and visit the Down Under Bar,located in the basement of Hot Millions[a fast food chain].We took our children there for dinner and it was some of the best food we have eaten in India.Don't miss the Rock Garden, well worth a visit. You will have nicer weather,it was around 40 deg in June, kindest cheers,Carol.

Welcome to Chandigarh !! I just moved here 6 months back.
Hotels choose from Taj - 5 Star, MountView - 5 Star, SunBeam - 3/4 Star.
There are several other hotels which are quite good, And the obove mentioned one's are going to charge you like anything 'coz the kind of chain or the marketeing strategy they have.

Shimla is only 3 hrs drive from Chandigarh, Also visit Kasauli, just 1-1/2 hr drive from Chandigarh.

Really? I went to this bar in March and the music is so loud that you can't speak a word and the DJ has no clue what to play. He keeps playing the same songs(from the late 80's) over and over again! The burger that I ordered was so bad that I had to leave it unfinished! The Copper Chimney in Chandigarh on the other hand has excellent food and very good service.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your feedback. Based on your feedback and some search on website, I have tweaked my plans as follows

a) November 20th Mumbai - Delhi By flight
b) 1 day stay at Delhi
c) November 22 Delhi - Kullu by Flight - Jagson airlines
c) November 22 -- November 27 5 days stay at manali
d) November 27 Kullu - Dharmshala by Flight - Jagson airlines
e) November 27 to December 3 Dharmshala 5 days stay
f) December 3 Dharmshala to Delhi by flight Jagson airlines
g) Delhi - Mumbai December 3

Your feedback is welcome on following

a) What level of tempreture is expected between November 20-December 3

b) Any 4-5 star hotels in Dharmasala?

c) How reliable is Jagson airlines and its services as their charges are quite high

d) Can I expect decent traffic -- mean -- will it be a complete off season?

Regards
