Travelling during Diwali
Is it recommended to travel to India during the Diwali festival or would it be too much transport hassle? I was planning to go around by train or domestic flights and will be heading to Delhi, Agra, Amritsar, Udaipur and Jaipur. Are touristy places and shops closed during the festival and how long are the public holidays? Thanks.

This is a great time to travel in India - since you shall be able to see the lightings and festivities around the country. Shops will NOT be closed during this period since in many parts of India this is celebrated as the New year and hence considered auspiscious for business.
However - you should bear in mind that this is the holiday season in many parts of India. Hence there will be a lot of travellers and bookings for stay and travel would need to be done in advance. |

The best is if you can wangle an invitation from a family to join in. Beware, fireworks noise..
