Hello all... I'm leaving for India on Wednesday, the 14th of November, and upon arriving there will land in Delhi. From there I go to Sarnath and volunteer there for around a month.
So what I'm trying to figure out is where to go from there. I'd love to travel around Northern India and venture up into Nepal, but I'm wondering if it'll be too cold/no other backpackers to meet, as compared to the South, where there will be tons of people and it will be nice and warm. I'm social and I like people, and the scene in Goa sounds appetizing, but I think that traveling around the North, visiting Dharamsala and making my way up to Kathmandu would be really amazing...and like -10 degrees centigrade. I think that I'll just about have the month of January to really travel, before leaving at the end of the month for Thailand. Your input is much appreciated! p.s. Advice for good traveler hostels in Delhi where I can meet cool people and hang out for a few days to acclimatize myself to the craziness that India is supposed to be? |

Since you'll be in Sarnath,
you've gotta spend some time in Varanasi. One of the quintessential Indian cities (IMHO). Varanasi is a jumping-off place for overlanding to Nepal/many buses leave for Kathmandu/Pokhara. So much in the north to see, and by January it's beginning to warm up.
But, if it's a "scene" you want . . . go to Goa.

yeah, planning on visiting varanasi, i've heard many interesting things about it.
it's starting to warm up in northern india/nepal in january? if it's hospitable for a guy who grew up in southern california, and has just spent the last 10 months in israel, i'd love to go there. . . that sounds like much more off the beaten track, less touristy than goa. i could go either way really, and i'm sure that i'll have a great time regardless, but i just thought i'd try to get some input first. |
