Talking Travel to Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Goa

Hello all, first time writer, long time time reader..
My friends and I are planning a trip to
  • Delhi
  • Agra
  • Jaipur
  • Jodhpur
  • Udaipur
  • Goa (New Years)

on dec 24th (or 23rd) through the 1st of Jan and well, let's just say we are bit confused on logistics, timing, and the itinerary.

A couple questions I have for you are:
-Do 10-12 Indians who can speak hindi and gujurati need a tour guide (We do not want one)?
-Is our sequence of places correct (Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Goa)? I want to ask if there are specific things we need to see, but I probably can get that if I search through this community

Can we accomplish the first five (not Goa) in 6-7 days? We would be spend one day and night in Delhi, one day and night in Agra, and then 4-5 days across the other three. Which city would we plan to stay an extra night?

How should we plan on getting around? We are thinking of train from Delhi to Agra, but then are wondering how we should travel through Rajastan (Bus, train, flights, walk - joking).

How much are flights on average (I assume expensive because of dates)? Are plans are to end our trip from Udaipur (or somewhere) to Goa via flight probably through bombay. We only want to be there for 2 days (31st and 1st or 30th and 31st). Is that possible or should we stay longer.

Also, can I budget ~$100 (4400INR) a night for hotels?

My wife and I are planning on traveling from Bombay to the Maldives after so any bit of advice on this would be most helpful as well. I can tell you that we have searched for hotels and could not find one available. I do not know if they are really booked or they just don't like hits from the US (another joke)

Thank You
Vikas

You can travel Delhi to Ajmer by morning Shatabdi express.
Visit Ajmer dargah, +/- side trip to Pushkar
Then Ajmer to Udaipur intercity express
Udaipur to Ranakpur, Kumbalgarh then Jodhpur by taxi
JU to Jaisalmer by train
JSM to Jaipur by overnight train
Jaipur to Agra
Agra to Delhi - Shatabdi Express

That's 6 places in 9 days at best (or 1.5 day per place), with Goa being far away, and Udaipur far from close to the others.

How exactly do you envisage this? Try also http://www.seat61.com/spreadsheet.htm

(And Indizen, are you sure you weren't answering another query? )

I'd say do a lazy spell in Goa or a short tour of Rajasthan by car+driver, should be equally pleasant and over before you know it. If you're hitting the Maldives afterwards anyway, I'd skip Goa and opt for Rajasthan, by all means. I suppose if you must, a quick tour of Delhi-Agra-Jaipur then flight to Goa would be feasible.

As far as hotel availability esp. in the Maldives (never been, but one hears stories) and presumably Goa goes, you'll realize you've picked the high high high season. Then again, you'd think it's early enough still. Well, good luck with it.

I reckon for an idea of sights to see and perhaps an idea of distances and connections and average costs a guidebook would also be helpful.

If your party can speak English, Hindi and Gujarati, there's no need for a guide. It would, however, be good to have a guidebook, so that you know what's available in each of the places you plan to visit.

For this purpose, you could buy an India guide in a used bookstore and tear out the sections for the areas you plan to visit.

I, too, believe you are trying to cram too much into just a few days. You could skip Goa and have a nice visit to Rajasthan before going to the Maldives, and be more relaxed.

Too much in too little time... skip something - Goa? We had NYEve in Udaipur and it was lovely - fireworks on the lake etc.

Do you need to go to Jaipur and Jodhpur? Maybe choose one...
