Travel tips and trip planning help
My wife and I are planning a months trip to india in June / July. We fly into Mumbai and out of Delhi. Anyone any tips on possible routes, places of interest we should take. We obviously have the LP and know the main attractions but what were thehighlights of your trip, where would you return to?
All help gratefully received! |

Welcome to IndiaMike.com. You'll find lots of good stuff already here, probably you've been browsing already...
I can't contribute, as I don't know N. India at all.

I travelled between Mumbai and Delhi last year - my planned itinerary's below:
I still think this would have been a pretty good itinerary though, nice mix of historical, cultural and natural things to see and do. And I believe that all of this is possible to do by train (the trains are a definite highlight on their own for me). I loved Mumbai but just to see a different large city than Delhi, it has a completely different feel. Ahmedabad I probably didn't need to spend much time in, but Gandhi's ashram is there which is an interesting thing to have a look at. Udaipur's lovely and apparently there's water in the lake at the moment so should be even better! Jaisalmer's amazing, the fort is gorgeous and it's a good place to get a camel trek too (which I'd recommend - lots of threads about them though) Jaipur's a lovely city - beautiful old buildings, great markets and a fantastic cinema if you're into Bollywood ![]() Agra, Taj Mahal, loved it. If you're that close anyway couldn't miss it,, right? Love Delhi too, ended up spending a fair bit of time there, tons of great things to see and a good spot for shopping before you go home (or anytime!) It all depends what you're interested in though - I really love the deserts and heat so was happy to spend a while in Rajasthan, it's probably not everyone's thing though. |

June / July will be the monsoon period in most parts of the country. You may plan Mumbai - Aurangabad - Ajanta/Ellora - Indore - Ujjain - Mandu - Jhansi - Khajuraho - Varanasi - Agra and Delhi.
