travel plan 27 days, mumbai, goa, agra, jaipur, delhi
Hi there!
Next summer (august 4) I'll travel to India, I arrive at Mumbai airport and i got 27 days in India. At the second of september I'll have to take a flight at Delhi towards Kathmandu (Nepal). In the main time i want to visit some places in India.
The places i'd like to visit are Mumbai, Goa, Jaipur, Agra and Delhi. I prefer traveling by train (also from Goa to Agra / Jaipur / Delhi). The budget I have is as you call Budget, about €1000 for the 27 days.
Do you think I can visit all places i'd like to see in India or do I have to skip Goa?
Because I'm doing this for the first time any kind of constructive help is needed and highly appreciated.
Many thanks, Lennaert

Thanks for your fast reaction. I heard that the three city's (delhi, jaipur and agra) are not worth spending a lot of time, so i was thinking about a week for those 3 city's. I'd like to spend some time in Goa to chill, visit the beaches and explore the nightlife, so i'd thought about 1,5 week. In Mumbai I'd like to stay minimal 5 days. It's difficult to find out how long the traveling by train takes from the one place to the other.
what is your opinion about this schedule? and what do you think about my budget?

You'll be in Goa smack in the middle of monsoon - so you won't be spending much time on the beaches. The actual season runs mid-end Oct to mid-end April. Although there are restaurants, etc. that are open year-round, this is definitely not the ideal time to visit. Most of the famous markets, popular clubs, etc. won't be open. You'd be bored to death in a couple of days, let alone 1.5 weeks! I'd give it a skip.
You can spend a full day and overnight in Agra and be fine. Daytime at Agra Fort, afternoon at the Taj, sunset on the Taj from across the river and then sunrise back at the Taj. As far as Delhi and Jaipur, it really all depends on your interests. I think if you just want to go from sight to sight, see everything as quickly as possible, and get out, well then you can see Jaipur in 2 days. You can spend more time in Delhi - 3-4 days. Of course, you can spend alot more time in either place. But allowing a total of week, seems to be fine for you.
For Mumbai, you can do it "all" in 2 days - be sure to spend some time riding the trains - get out into the suburbs, go to the markets, and people-watch. By the way, Mumbai in the monsoon is not particularly nice. I do think Mumbai is underrated - most people think there is nothing really to do. That may be true when compared to other cities, but Mumbai has its own flavor and I never run out of things to do there.

Have a great time!
bombay madgaon 12 hours
madgaon agra 35 hours
madgaon jaipur 30 hours
agra jaipur 5 hours
agra delhi and jaipur delhi 4 hours
some trains may be a bit slower some faster
decide and take ur decision

Hi Lweijers - on the money side, I just spent 3 weeks in India and spent less than 700 euro. I could have done it cheaper if I'd wanted (but I do like own bathroom with hot water - I'm a real wimp about cold showers!) I generally spent about 600 rupees a night on hotel (non a/c)and had a bottle of beer most nights -except when I was in Hampi. So I reckon you'll be fine - as long as your 1000 excludes your airfare! Admission fees add up a bit but transport is really cheap. I find ordinary non a/c sleeper just fine but not sure if you might need to splash out on a bit of air/con now and again at that time.
Hope that reassures you a bit!

Mumbai is not a pretty place to be in during the monsoons. Streets are slushy and yuccky. So lose BOM,There are no beachy things to do in Goa in monsoon, if that is what your aim is, so lose Goa, Rains in the plains are torrential and unrelenting. Fly directly into Delhi. After seeing Agra and Jaipur (if you wish) high tail it to climbs of Himachal Pradesh, Uttranchal.
