We are trying to work out the best way to travel from Kolkata to Bhubaneshwar, then from Bhubaneshwar to Delhi in early April - 2 adults and 3 children so needs to be as stress free as possible.
Does anyone know how long it takes to travel by train from Kolkata to Bhubaneshwar? We are quite keen to fly from Bhubaneshwar back to Delhi, but most airlines only fly from Kolkata to Delhi. Time is limited so we are keen to travel overnight or by air if we can. Any suggestions? THANKS SO MUCH!!! ![]() |

There is a Rajdhani Express which is a superfast premium train, check the dates on which it runs plus another express train too. I have told you about the Bhubanshwar Kokata train. Hope you had been to Konark.

Best way for Howrah - Bhubaneswar 1) Over night train - Puri Express OR Jagannath Express . Takes 11hrs (apprx) Runs daily
2) Day Train - Dhauli Express(daily) in the early morning Or Janashatabdi (Not on SUNDAYS ) in the noon . Takes 7- 8 hrs (apprx) It has only sitting reservation. For Bhubaneswar - N.Delhi - Rajdhani Experss is the best option.

Thanks ddutta and Rangers - overnight train Kolkata to Bhubaneshwar seems the way to go, and on our return to Delhi the Radjhani express. I do appreciate you taking the time to reply. When we have completed out trip it will be great to be able to help other travellers with some info.

Please book your train tickets well in advance bcoz Puri is a very / highly popular tourist place among bengalees & the above mentioned 2 overnight train gets fully booked very quickly.

I am doing a detailed reply with all train info (to add it to the 'train information' thread.) What age are your kids? I'm a little worried about the timing of the overnight trains if your kids are young, there are other daytime trains. (22:10 departure, 05:35 arrival) More later. |

Thanks everyone I will get onto the bookings soon - still need to finalise flight details to India and just doing my research for our time in India.
steven_ber - our children are 14, 11 and 9, so hopefully they will deal with the travel - probably hard at the time, but its the only way to fit in our travel. Actually the children will likely just sleep thru the night. I have just looked at the train information thread - found the excellent info on trains by beach - so cool that he researched all of that info to share with us all. |

I some how feel it is better to travel by overnight trains while travelling with kids, they soon fall asleep. Towards the begining of a long day journey the kids are quite excited but soon they tend to get bored & its trouble for parents. Carry some books, crayons etc. so that the kids can keep themselves amused & occupied during day journeys. Do carry snacks & sweets etc. too & bottled water of reputed brands. Often the water sold on the trains by vendors are of substandard quality so take care.

Indian Airlines flight IC 878 departs Bhubaneswar daily at 1520 and gets to Delhi at 1720.
This is a direct flight, but I'm not sure of the cost. |
