Train vs Flight from Delhi to Mumbai
Hi all,
I am flying to New Delhi on June 7th and am spending a month in India with a friend before flying to SE Asia. We have decided to head to the hills and go to Himachal Pradesh and surrounding states first of all. The only problem i have is that our flight flies out from Mumbai on July 6th. Is this going to be a nightmare travelling down South in monsoon season as i've read that the floods are terrible? We are going to be seriously budgeting so a flight down is probably out of the question and i do want to take the train to see more of the country. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers, Emma

Hello Emma and welcome to indiamike.com
From anywhere in the hills you'll be looking at a 40+ hour train journey to Mumbai, even changing trains in Delhi and catching faster trains will not cover the total journey in less time.

With www.spicejet.com a flight is less than 2500 Rupees including all the fees, with www.flyairdeccan.net 2950. Are you sure you cannot afford this? Spicejet is a good experience, Air Deccan has a bit narrow seats. Both are worth it, Spicejet even more so.

I had no idea that it'd be quite so cheap! Yes, that will be in the budget limit. I didn't want to miss out on travelling by train and missing any sights but i think i'm gonna have to make some sacrifices especially at the time i'm going.
