Train from Delhi to Kolkata after 9pm??

Hi all, I'm flying into Delhi with an arrival time of 8:30pm and supposed to be meeting friends in Kolkata. While I realize Delhi will be a great place to visit, I'd rather come back later with my friends. I was hoping to head out of Delhi (on route to Kolkata) that night (October 8).

The last flight I could find from Delhi to Kolkata leaves at 8:40pm, giving me no where near enough time. I can't seem to find any overnight trains that will leave late enough either; however this being my first time to India I am the standard Indian railway rookie, finding new trains every time I search. While I'd prefer a sleeping car, I'll take what I can get.

Can any of you Indian railway gurus do that thing where you seemingly invent a new train that happens be everything I've every asked for? Cause if you could that'd be great....

it seems that u r in a hurry. then the best option would be to take a flight early next dday. trains other than Rajdhani will take about 24 hours.

Trains after 22.00hs

Dear Ktschmid,
There might be just a way around your problem

2428 +NDLS REWA EXP NEW DELHI 23:50 ALLAHABAD JN 0 9:25

2308 JU HWH SUPFAST *ALLAHABAD JN 14:20 HOWRAH JN 04:00 Y Y Y Y Y Y Y - - -

5hrs break at allahabad[Both the above trains apparently have a good name in terms of keeping to time]

OR
Longer route

Take the 2230 Lucknow Mail leaving at 22.00hrs from New Delhi and reaching at 6.50AM [A prestigious train] at Lucknow and joining to the 3006 Amritsar Howrah Mail to Calcutta at 10.55 AM [Scheduled arrival] and a layover of 4 hours.
You may want to choose from either of the 2 as Lucknow and Allahabad are good stations to catch another train. You can leave after 22.00hrs but you'll need to change trains and there may be a slight deviation from the regular route unless you are prepared to wait for the next day mornings/later trains which are direct and to Calcutta.

OR

Take the Purushottam Express leaving Delhi at 22.20hrs and get down at Kharagpur[scheduled arrival 22.20hrs] or Tatanagar to go to Calcutta. The journey will be 2 nights and one day. A train with a supposedly good reputation but have to change at Kharagpur at the wrong hours of the morning

Are the above suggestions helpful to resolving your query?

Man that is some serious train research! Personally, I would spend the night in Delhi, and get a flight the next day. You will still be there a day earlier than had you left that night by train.

Dear Ktschmid
The options are entirely at your discretion. But since you wanted the railway option this was the line of thought one was oriented to ponder over with the only hassle here being " All change please All change" at Lucknow or Allahabad with the additional attraction of delicious Lucknow food!
A journey to calcutta is a day and a night from delhi. What's being done here is an extra night is being slept away as it is anyway sometimes quite a headache to get to the station in Delhi early in the morning. You leave late in the night and arrive with the whole day at your disposal with the above trains.
