We are going to Delhi on June 9th and our trip is as follows:

Monday 9th June Day in Delhi
Tuesday 10th June Day in Delhi
Wednesday 11th June Day in Delhi
Thursday 12th June Day in Lucknow
Friday 13th June Day in Lucknow
Saturday 14th June Day in Varanasi
Sunday 15th June Day in Varanasi
Monday 16th June Day in Varanasi
Tuesday 17th June Day in Agra
Wednesday 18th June Day in Agra
Thursday 19th June Day in Jaipur
Friday 20th June Day in Jaipur
Saturday 21st June Day in Jaipur
Sunday 22nd June Day in Delhi
Monday 23rd June Flight Home

We have not used a travel our tour operator as we have been able to book trains/hotels on the web at a lot cheaper prices. So far the trip has cost us £75 and we only have two more hotels and trains to book so I can't see it being more than £100

If you want any tips on hotels we have done lots of research, and are going to see some amazing things. We have a hotel which over looks the Taj and our hotel in varanasi looks fab (right on the main ghat) We have also found out that there is a festival in Varanasi when we arrive so it should be busy and really exiting.

Oh another thing, we are getting overnight trains etc so we don't lose out on time in the different places, our plan is for two weeks and we would really like to make if longer as I think you really need to spend 48 hours in each place to soak it up.

You may want to cut the amount of places down a bit !

one operator gave me a price quote of usd1800 for 1 person. 10 nights in a hotel and 1 overnight train and 1 overnight at a cottage in a desert somewhere in jaisalmer. this tour will be on a private car.

can u give me suggestions of a hotel hotel in delhi, agra, jaipur, varanasi?

a good review in varanasi is the rashmi guest house i think

$1800 - Are You Sure ???

That is approx £900, we have booked 7 nights in hotels and 1 overnight train so far and this has cost £63.65 ($125)

We are staying in the Ganpati Guest House in Varanasi (www.ganpatiguesthouse.com) And the Shanti Lodge in Agra (view of Taj from roof restaurant)

I would seriously consider booking it all yourself, that price too high

June will be intolerably hot in Rajasthan specially Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. Consider travelling to some cool places in the mountains.

Hi,

Unless you can cope with temperatures in the very high 40's, I'd skip Jaisalmer and probably even Jodhpur.

For a 2 week journey, you could consider the following route (*if* you can change your departure from Delhi to Kolkata, you'll save $$$ going home & not have to backtrack and, keep in mind, it's still going to be quite warm on the plains):

Delhi => Agra => Orchha => Khajuraho => Varanasi => Darjeeling Kolkata.

This would allow you a relatively unhurried itinerary of places to visit and you'll see some interesting sites along the way.

> any suggestion of a tour operator?

Personally, I'd go it alone. India is easy enough to get around if you do some basic homework. You could hire an a/c car and driver but it's just as easy to go by train /bus along the way.

Cheers
Zoltan

Right, I still think it is really over priced. Do some searching on Guides in the IM forums and see what people say. I think they are easy to get hold of and a lot of people can recomend good ones.

3 nights out of our 7 include breakfast, all rooms booked have A/C so far and trains are sleeper trains which I am told are a great way of experiancing india. Food is cheap so our breakfasts are going to cost us less then $2, see the thread on prices in India. Cars will also be equally cheap.

We have booked our trains on the Web, it's easy to do. Do you want me to work out how much everything should cost for you - if you booked it yourself ? I would just need the dates.

we recently did 10/11 days through Rajasthan witha car and driver. Cost us 25,000rps (around $650AUD, say $700 USD)

This didn't include food (yep $2 - 4 is plenty per meal - two people.

Also didn't include accommodation - this was around 1000 - 1500rps a night - AC two people - that's $25 - $40AUD

So $1,800 is WAY too much - atleast double too much I would have thought

I have booked 5 trains and not been put on a waitlist yet, so if you get booking soon there shouldn't be a problem.

OP's location is given as Philippines; it's hot there, too.

No, it's not OK to wait till you get to Delhi to book your train tickets, you'll find your options very limited and may need to change your route to fit in with any available foreign tourist quota tickets, and you don't have enough time to accommodate any changes to your itinerary.

You should consider that it's easiest to get to Varanasi from either Agra or Delhi, getting from Jaisalmer to Varanasi would take about 28 hours by train.

If a travel agent suggested the above route, knowing you then need to get to Varanasi, don't use the travel agent.

Are you sure you want to travel extensively in Rajasthan in June?
Even the heat in the north Indian plains is unbearable in the summers.
