| Three Weeks in India from Oct. 18 - Nov. 10 I'm Greg in New York and in January and February I went to (in this order): Delhi, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Mussorrie, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Lucknow, Varanasi and Kolkata . I had planned a six-week trip but at the end of the three weeks I had to leave India. The first two weeks (up until Haridwar I would say) I had a fantastic experience but the touts in Varanasi and the air quality in Kolkata were the two biggest reasons I needed to leave the country. Needless to say, I was turmoiled to leave India on such a sour note and I am going back Oct. 18 - Nov. 10 to finish out my trip. These cities are the ones I want to visit and I would appreciate anyone's advice on how much time you would stay and why in any of the places: Mumbai Jaipur Jodhpur Udaipur Jaisalmer Bangalore Chennai Pondicherry Does anybody have a suggested itinerary for a route and amounts of times to stay in each place, considering the weather, mosquito factor and possibly most importantly the air quality in those weeks for those places? Also I'm curious about the trip from Mumbai up to Udaipur; I've heard that on a train it's especially pretty. Would that be the chunk from Mumbai to Ahmedabad or from Ahmedabad to Udaipur? Thanks, Greg in New York |

| Lord of Kalinjar | seems like 2 trips, to me. Might want to either go north or south. either way, it would be a shame when setting out in either direction from Bombay not to visit ajanta and ellora as your first stop. North to Rajasthan, don't forget Mt Abu, just off the rail line wnd well worth it.

| Bangalore is a city where you can be on transit, but it doesn't have much to offer for a tourist. But nearby places you must not miss are Hampi and Mysore. Hampi 300km from Bangalore. If you are travelling by land, you can visit Hampi first and then go to Bangalore. Mysore is 3 hours journey from Bangalore. Ideally you would want to spend 'at least 3 days in Hampi and 3 in Mysore. |

| I would strongly suggest squeezing in Pushkar somewhere in there. ALso, I found Jodhpur and Jaipur to be very similar (but that's just me)

| Is there any particular reason you're only planning on visiting cities? We visited many of the same cities but spent an equal (or greater) amount of time in smaller places like Pushkar, Ranakpur, Bharatpur (for the park) and Gokarna. The air quality is much better and there tends to be fewer touts. Pushkar and Ooty were especially notable for lack of touts and pushy sales people. |
