These are my plans, are they doable or not?
Hi
Now I believe in planning ahead, and for this trip I am way in advance, or maybe not. The next trip to India we are planning, wont be until 2010. This is mainly because my other half is having to undergo some hefty op's on his legs after an accident, and all being well he should be up, but maybe not quiet running by then. The trip will also be to celebrate my 50th in 2010 and his 60th in 2011. Our dates are very flexible but we would like to think we would be going any time between December 2010 and February 2011. We are planning definitely for 3 weeks but maybe 4. As yet we don't know how long to stay in different places, and are open to suggestion on this. Also how we arrive and leave these places I have no idea. Now here is where I probably go hay wire. I thought our trip would go something like this: Day 1. Goa Day 2. Goa - over night train to Mumbai Day 3. Mumbai Day 4. Mumbai - Udaipur Day 5. Udaipur Day 6. Udaipur - Jodphur Day 7. Jodphur- Jalismer. Day 8. Jalismer Day 9. Jalismer - overnight train to Jaipur Day 10.Jaipur Day 11.Jaipur - Delhi Day 12. Delhi - Agra Day 13. Agra - Varanasis Day 14. Varanasi Day 15 Varanasi - Delhi Day 16. Delhi - Fly back to Goa Day 17 - 21 recover. Well, know you have all stopped laughing and called for the men in the white coats to cart me off, what do you think, is it doable or am I completely mad? Obviously all the above is open to change I really don't know how much time should be spent in certain places. You hear so many conflicting views that I really am open to suggestion. After all that I forgot about Bundi, thats another place I have been hearing a lot about lately. We would like to do as much as possible without exhausting our selfs as we think this may be our last visit to India. Thanks for your time. ![]() |

Luc you don't have to double back to Delhi from Varanasi, you can take a train to Agra. You could start with all of Day 1 in Delhi then.
Tippie, similar thing- why not go from Jaipur to Agra to Varanasi and then get back to Delhi a day earlier, do some sightseeing? (I've not read your previous posts so apologies if you've explained this decision elsewhere). And you've not really enough time in either Mumbai or Delhi to do them justice! I would possibly cut a night out of Jodhpur or Jaipur and add to Mumbai.

Why not get an "open-jaw" ticket and fly into Delhi and out of either Goa or Mumbai; this will save you a lot of backtracking and shouldn't cost much more.
I believe Mumbai to Udaipur is not a "quick overnight" train ride; you may have to change at Ahmedabad. Have you allowed 20+ hours for this? Sorry, but I really think you are trying to do too much in a very short time.

I hate to say it, but Varanasi. It's a huge detour.

Tippie : First things first - love the snap of your dog in the profile. Is there a front face snap that you can share ? And what breed is he/she ?
[Btw : Is Tippie his/her name ?] On to main things.... Your itinerary looks very touristy. I can understand the Goa part of it since your other posts and profile show that it's your favourite haunt. But what are your reasons for visiting the other places (eg. Varanasi)? Would help in advising if one gets to know why. And with this plan of dropping into various places, have you spared a thought for the interesting asides from the places you have mentioned which may require additional allotment of days ? (Eg., Ranakpur and Kumbalgarh near Udaipur). Last edited by KABAARY : Sep 28th, 2008 at 03:47. Reason: This and that.. |

If you've got a return ticket to Goa....
A quick look has me thinking..... Goa (flight to...) Jaipur (overnight train to) Jaisalmer Jodhpur Udaipur Agra Varanasi Delhi Goa Or Goa (flight to...) Udaipur (changing planes in Mumbai) Jodhpur Jaisalmer (overnight train to ) Jaipur Agra Varanasi Delhi Goa Check flights at www.ixigo.com and trains at www.erail.in |

Varanasi is one of the main places my partner wants to see and i would love to see the Amber Fort and the blue city. And of course the Taj Mahal. I dont want it to be rushed but I dont want to miss out on too much either. Now you can see why I have started planning early ha ha

[Btw : Is Tippie his/her name ?] My dog is as you could see very nosey, and very very lazy. I have changed the pic on my profile for you too see her. Her name is Betty-Boo but we call her Boo, and she is a 4y/o Beagle. |

I did a round Rajasthan trip by car, stopping at all the places you want, including Delhi. That was 16 nights and could really have done with being 18 to 20. You have the same amount of time and you're fitting in Mumbai and Varanasi! I've turned this every which way in my head and I really can't see a sensible way out of dropping Jaisalmer. Perhaps someone else can, but I'm thinking: Fly Goa - Delhi (2 nights)- flight to Varanasi (3) - overnight train (1) to Agra (2) - Jaipur (2) - Jodhpur (2) - (car via Ranakpur) Udaipur (2) - flight to Mumbai (2) - flight to Goa. That's your 16 nights. Quote:
Phew...I hope that helps Karen. |
