Surgery trip + Short trips from Delhi/Goa
We are coming to Delhi for surgery mid April and will spend a month total in India. My wife is advised to spend the week after discharge in the Delhi area(Non-strenuous suggestions?). We need a serviced apartment or hotel we would be willing and could afford to spend a week in (suggestions?). If she feels up to it I thought we might take an overnight trip to Agra (book Hotel Shelia, if possible). Are there any other short trips that would be good?
For the next week I was thinking about a serviced apartment in Goa. If she is up to it we might take side trips from Goa (suggestions?). We would then have 5 days before returning to Delhi to get the plane. I was thinking about the Himalayas. Suggestions/advice about our plans are wanted; other than the hospital, nothing is set in stone. We are budget conscious (not poor) and in our late 50s but have never been to India and don’t want to waste the opportunity. |

1. U have not mentioned which hospital or its location. Around some hospitals there are accomodation facilities available where people accompanying patients from ouside the city stay. The quality & facility widely varries. Getting a very good serviced apartment for a week may be difficult. Your other choice is a hotel of course. During post operative time the cleanlyness & hygine is important. So choose an appropriate hote even if it is a bit costly.
2. I dont know what kind of weather u are used to. Mid April is not peak summer but it may be quite hot for you, the max temp may go up to & beyond 40 deg Centigrade. So you may need aircon room. 3. Agra is definitely suggested. There are very comfortable aircon train connections to Agra. Considering ur wife's health travel by train & not by road. 4. From Delhi u can take the overnight train to Kalka & from Kalka take the toy train to Shimla. April is very comfortable in Shimla & since the school & college vaccations will still be almost one month ahead there wont be much crowd. If u have any other querries regarding Delhi & places around Delhi don't hesitate to ask. Good luck. |

Goa in April is hot hot hot, though you will have a lot of bargaining power as there will be fewer tourist around!!
For side trip you could consider Dandeli, Amboli or Gokarne. Hampi is the obvious choice of side trip but in April, Hampi will be steaming hot and for your wife it's a very long joourney! |

We live in Texas and it will be high 80s F here this week but 104 F is very hot. Perhaps Goa is not such a good idea.
Any other suggestions? We will stay in the hospital 5 nights after surgery and will not leave until she is able. In a US hospital she would be disharged after 1. |

I suggest somewhere in the mountains perhaps you could take in Rishikesh along the way quite a spiritual place surrounded by green hills and on the Ganges!!
