Suggestions for Itinerary

Hi,
My work is taking me to Coimbatore, where my family (wife, two kids- 7 and 3) would join me for a 5 day 'vacation' around tamilnadu. Our flight back is laready planned from Chennai. I am planning to hire a taxi and move around this way:
day 1 Coimbatore - Kodai stay in kodai
day 2 - stay in kodai (relax)
day 3 - move to trichy - stay in trichy
day 4 - move to pondicherry - stay in pondi
day 5 - pondi - mamallapuram - the funpark - chennai - stay in chennai
day 6 morning fly out from chennai

My constraints:
1) The start and end points are fixed and so are the number of days
2) We don't want to travel more than 4 hrs in a day
3) We have been to OOty before - so will leave that out
can leave out temples if its only for regilious purposes.

My Q's:
1) Any other suitable itinerary
2) I believe a taxi for the full trip maybe more convinient (as it helps in local travel too) than a point to point one, and may not be considerably more expensive- am i right?
3) Would it make sense to move to Madurai on day 2 from kodai and staying there?
4) Can somebody tell me the travel time from trichy - pondi vs tanjaour - pondi by road.

The plan looks good given your constraints. If you are staying just one and half days at Kodai, it maybe worth to cut it to one day and leave for Trichy on day 2 itself. That way you can incorporate Tanjore and Chidambaram into your travel plan. have a nice time

I am not sure if I still want to go ahead with the travel plans. The heart just blleds to see so much destruction and devastation. I am not sure if i would be able to goto TN for enjoyment in such near future.
