Smile suggested itinerary

Hi all,

I'm off to India for 2 weeks in November and was hoping for some help with a suggested itinerary!

We fly into Delhi and fly out of Mumbai. Ideally we'd like to spend about 4 days or so chilling in Goa towards the end as it's my birthday but was hoping for some suggestions for inbetween??

We're going to be doing it on a budget and probably mostly be travelling by train and bus.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi there,

This thread might help you:

Delhi to Mumbai, 18 days, November?

And please also see the Rajasthan Itinerary thread that's stickied at the top of this Itinerary forum- it has some links to information on where to go and what to see in Rajasthan.

2 weeks is not enough to do Delhi to Mumbai and Goa IMHO, but see that Rajasthan sticky thread for others who've done similar trips.

Thanks for that, really helpful.

I think we're starting to realise it's a lot to try and attempt to see and do, but if we can do at least half of that i think we'll be happy!

Is it best to try and book accomodation in advance (we're sorted for delhi with airport pick up) or just turn up at the others and sort it when we arrive? I've read alot about touts, but after going to Egypt every year think i'm ok on ignoring people that approach you....

Depends how concerned you are with getting particular hotels really. The good/popular ones book up quickly in season time so if you want to be sure of getting the place you've circled in the guidebook, I'd contact them ahead of time to check availability at least.

If you're not particularly bothered about possibly ending up in basic, not very good places you should be able to find something- but to be honest with only two weeks I wouldn't waste time tramping around trying to find somewhere when you arrive. If you book ahead at least you can just check-in and get sightseeing straight away. Also having somewhere pre-booked means you're less at the mercy of commission-seeking autorickshaw-wallahs!

Have a look at the Hotels section for reviews, and also check out TripAdvisor (but beware touts there).

If you are starting in the Delhi/north region, flying to Goa would make sense time-wise. A train could take a full day of travel time.
