Southern Itinerary Help

We're finally getting close, the travel agent is checking for tickets, the visa's have been applied for, shots are at the end of the week.......it's finally here!!! Yeah!!!

Now, I need some help. I need the experienced to tell me if this will work.

We're flying into Mumbai, fly out the next day to Trivandrum, 1-2 days(?) then train to Kollam via Varkala, hop a boat up the backwaters, stop and get hugged by "Mata"(Amrithapuri), back on (a) boat to Alleppey, then, here's where I get sketchy, train(?) to Mysore, how long does that take?. 1-2 days at Mysore(for sandelwood) then train to somewhere near Goa. Give me ideas on this one, please. Then from Goa up to Mumbai for approx 2 days before flying home.

Can this be done in 3 weeks?? Am I being to ambitious?? We really want to see everything, but realize this may be too much.

Has anyone stayed at the Ayurvedic Lake Resort in Alleppey??

I appreciate all of the help! I'm sure I'll be back with more.

KariB

2 more months!!!!!!!!!!!! :eek

Mysore has a lot going for it, and its environs; most notably in my book are the Hoysala temples of Belur, Halebid (and Somnathpur, the most modest, but nearest to Mysore) Among the top sites in all India, the first two can be seen in one whole day, morning in one, afternoon in t'other.

I'm not very up on Kerala, I'm more a Tamil Nadu and Karnataka addict, but I can tell you that it's best for me when take it slow in the South, get up early, take siesta and enjoy the smiles! Remember that all your plans aren't worth the bandwidth they take up here once you actually get to Ma India. Leave room for magic!

There are busses from Cochin to Mysore, not sure how long they take, at least 12 hours though, I've heard it's an awful journey.

The ideal route if you had the time, would be via Coimbatore, then toy train to Ooty (awesome), then bus/taxi to Mysore (3 hours).

Or a train to Mangalore, then bus to Mysore from there.

There are no train connections to Mysore, Bangalore is 3 hours by train from Mysore.

On Wednesdays only, train 6322 (2A, SL) departs Alleppey at 18:10, and gets to Bangalore at 09:40 on Thursday morning.

On other days you will need to go to either Kottayam or Cochin to get a train to Bangalore.

Train 6525 departs Kottayam Daily at 13:05, then departs Ernakulam Town (Cochin) at 14:35 and gets to Bangalore at 05:00.

Likewise, there are no train connections between Mysore and Goa, Bangalore is the transport hub in the area.

There are at least 3 routes between Bangalore and Goa, on this thread you will find direct trains (see also Chennai to Goa for a 3rd train from Bangalore) and trains via Hampi, you could also go via Jog Falls.

There are busses from Mysore to Hampi (12 hours), but I don't know if you can get a direct bus to Goa, there are busses to Shimoga Town from Mysore, but not sure if there are direct busses to Jog Falls.
