South India Trip - Ellora / Ajanta Caves or Not?
Hi everyone,
I've got 32 days to explore principally the states of Karantaka, Kerala and Tamil Nadhu. Now the Ellora and Ajanta caves sound amazing but as they are located at the north of Maharashtra, visiting them will mean less days visiting other places in Karantaka, Kerala and Tamil Nadhu.
What would you advise? Is 32 days more than enough to see the other states that some days can be spared for Ellora / Ajanta. I guess the best is probably to plan another trip to return to Ellora / Ajanta however never sure when this will be!
Thanks for your feedback.
Take care.

I did basicly a round trip for that last year, perhaps the time frame can help you:
We started early morning in Mumbai by train to nashik, arrived there at noon and stayed a few days with a friend but since we then took the bus to aurangabad leaving around noon, it is possible to get there from mumbai in a day without problem. We stayed right by the caves ellora and spend the next day at the caves (and it is really worth taking a whole day in my opinion). Next day we went to see aurangabad and the fort which is halfway (forgot the name, but you probably know it) third day, we shared a taxi with a third person (cutting the cost per person) to get to ellora, elft the luggage with a friendly shopkeeper, visited the caves and got a bus to jalgaon and on the night train back to mumbai (and then a flight to goa at noon to relax a few days...)
So its no trouble to do in 4 days from mumbai, 3 if you just go for the caves.

but be shure to check the days, each cave is closed on a different day of the week
