Thumbs up South India Itinerary suggestions?

I need a good itinerary for S India .We are travelling for 3 months, starting in Chennai, departing from Mumbai. We want to travel at a very relaxed pace visiting maybe 6-10 places. We have already visited Hassan, Halibidu, Cochin, and Paloelim and Hampi. I am an artist who paints on location (figures, landscapes and abstracts- 43 paintings on my first trip to India) so I want physically beautiful spots, which are quiet (reasonably) and where the people are interesting to look at and be around. I also like ruins, history and culture. Is this a tall order? Can anyone make some suggestions for places not to be missed!

Sravanabelagola. Was recently one of the highlights of a 2.5 week trip thru Karnataka. Good for pilgrim-watching.

We went to a couple of less visited places on our trip. In Karnataka we spent a day in Mangalore, which was untouched by touts and the like and it was interesting just people watching. The streets in the northern end of town were fairly narrow and a llittle different to everything else I saw.

The other place was Murudeshwar about 3 hours noth of Mangalore. It's fairly small but has a temple and huge monument of Shiva on the clifftop which have been built by some guy from Bangalore. There were plenty of pilgrims when we were there but I'm sure it gets quieter out of the holiday season. The beaches and fishing enterprises there are also worth seeing.

Shirleyart,

Would be great if you could scan a painting or drawing and upload for us on this site to see.

If you like monolithic rocks I suggest Chitradurga Fort.

Subramanya and Mookambika are very pretty, and usually peaceful spots..

From an artistic (I'm not artsy by any stretch of imagination however :P) pov, Kanya Kumari (where the indian ocean, bay of bengal and arabian sea come together) is excellent - I haven't been there in about 14 years, but the memories are still vivid :)
