South Goa/ Northern Karnataka coast in mid-October...are we too early?!!

Hi there,
We're flying into Mumbai Oct 4th and are planning on staying about 3 nights before heading towards Hampi (via somewhere? Is Bijapur the logical stopover?).

From Hampi we're wanting to head to the coast. Pretty keen on staying at a low key place away from the masses in South Goa - Agonda, Patnem-ish and then somewhere further south in Karnataka on our way to Udupi. Gokarna-way maybe? We will probably head inland after Udupi.

THE BIG QUESTION....???

I figure we will hit the coast about Oct 12/13. Are we too early? Will shacks still be threatened by rain? Even if we stayed in a guest house, will the sea/beach be rough and dirty? We are major fans of South Indian food, and would be very sad if didn't get to try some fresh fish curries et al.

Is it still worth trying for some beach time at this time?

In normal circumstances the rain should have ended by September end, but with the crazy weather patterns you never know. But mid october is a safe bet for Goa and things would have opened up. Check out about Karwar and Kumta both of which are nice and peaceful beaches in Karnataka.
