S. Asia for an E. Asian European
I'm planning a month in northern India for myself (63) and my informally adopted "daughter" (25) in mid October - mid November. Backpacker standard OK, but no real financial limits. She is familiar with most of her native Vietnam, has travelled extensively in China (from Beijing to Xishuangbanna and Hainan), and has lived in Sweden for most of her life.
So far, I think of two weeks in Delhi, including getting a shalwar-kameez plus dupatta, visiting the Zoo and assorted monuments, among which the tombs of Safdar Jang and Humayun to prepare for the Taj, and then the rest of the Triangle, including Ranthambhore, and Varanasi. At least one major train journey.
Do you have any thoughts on what might be extra special for her to experience in India? Gaumukh might be too strenuos for me, but I would love it if feasible. I don't exclude the south or east (like Orissa tribals) either, but would myself rather avoid Goa. We're not adherents of any religion, but I just now realize that I don't yet know if she has any Buddhist relatives. In that case, Sarnath and Bodh Gaya might earn us points.
