Romantic is not an easy word when you are traveling specially in India, for instance in sleeperbus.
I can choose a lot of romantic places: |

Matunga Hill in Hampi
The one place where it was so romantic when I went was the sunset at Matunga Hill in Hampi, Karnataka. Only I didnt have anyone to be romantic with at that time and the monkeys stole my 2 rupee bananas from me. Very memorable place. If you are alone be careful hiking up the little hill, robberies have been known to occur.
There are many others that I thought was romantic but something or someone showed up and ruined the moment for me. Example, I was watching sunset in the desert in Jaisalmer and this flute wallah insisted on singing me a tune and wouldnt leave me alone. it was frustrating but comical. |

for me it's darjeeling all the way. not only did i fall instantly in love with the place, but you do see quite a few Indian tourists who are walking down the street holding hands, etc.
apparently public displays are not frowned upon as they are in other places in india, due to a predominantly buddhist culture. |

Most romantic spot in an utterly desolate fashion was a tomb on top of a mountain in remote area not far from Ahmednagar city. Locals know it but thankfully its not in any guidebook..

Mandu in Madhya Pradesh. Must be even better during monsoon with the tanks and the lakes filled and the landscape green.
