Road Trip from Mumbai to Surat

Hey ppl,

leaving tomorrow morning for Surat, will be driving down from Mumbai. Any nice places to stop buy to see stuff on the way to Surat ?

Nothing extraordinary to visit on the way really. People do stop at the Mahalaskmi temple at Dahanu for a prayer and a break. Its a very short diversion and you can break journey for about 30minutes. You'll see signs on the highway on where to tun for the temple.

Let me also warn you that the highway is in an 'extremely' bad shape. At some stretches between Vasai and Manor, there is no road at all! The top bitumen layer has come off and the highway resembles a village road. Ditto on the way back - in fact more potholes. So add at least an hour to your journey. Beyond Manor, the roads are very good.

You bet!! But trust me, a few patches of the highway are worse than anything you've ever seen in Mumbai. When I journeyed last week, they were trying to fill some patches. But with the rains in the last one week , I am not sure if the new layering has remained.

The journey is otherwise fun - lots of greenery on both sides, some nice villages and fields to pass by...
