| Rishikesh or Dharmsala? We only have time to go to one: Dharmsala (during Dalai Lama teachings) or Rishikesh. We are going this July and keep going back and forth. First time to India...leaning toward Dharmsala right now. This will be after Varanasi, Delhi, and Jaipur. Thanks Felix and Krista |

| The two cannot really be compared. They differ in location, climate, topography, accessibility from Delhi, etc. etc. It really depends on what you are looking for. Visit Dharamsala for the Himalayas, cool climate, Tibetan flavour, Dalai Lama's teachings-if you are inclined thus. Visit Rishikesh for meditation, yoga, river rafting, a glimpse of Hindu culture.

| i have only been to Rishikesh out of the two. But it was great and i really recomend it. I went right after Delhi and it was totally a breath of fresh air. We did a trek out of there and went rafting as well. |

| Dharamsala is for the Dalai Lama, Monastery, Meditation, studying Buddism, Potala paintings, Momos, Israeli food, sunrise cafe that has 10 varieties of omelettes and 7 varieties of chai....short and nice treks...overnight camping etc. Rishikesh is for a dip in the Ganges, pujas, sadhus, white river rafting....and for a peek into the Hindu psyche. They r both different... I suggest...do both. |
