Recommended places to visit

This is a bit of an open question, but can anyone recommend some places to explore whilst in India. Me and a friend and flying to Kerala, then intended on travelling up the west coast, then on across to Nepal. We have no previous experience of India and have no idea what to expect.

What are your interests? Wildlife, architecture, history?

But as you're in Kerala why don't you travel up into the state of Karnatka. There's a hill station at Ooty, several national parks, Mysore quite a nice place with a really nice palace. Further north is Hampi, an ancient city with some really nice temples etc.

Maybe you should first decide what kind of places you want to go to... touristy or quiet? hills or desert or backwaters or beaches? temples, churches or resorts?

If you are going up the west coast and on to nepal you can visit any of those types. (except if flying from Mumbai, knock out the desert)

Just out of interest why did you choose to fly into Kerala (and is it Cochin or Trivandrum) ?

How long have you got in India?

Does your budget allow internal flights / taxis or will you be just travelling on busses and trains?

What sort of experiences are you after?
