Realistic Itinerary?

My wife and I are planning 24 days in India arriving in Delhi,early January.First leg is up to McLeod Ganj for a taste of the Himalayas(understand it's winter) then back to Delhi for Golden triangle but continue by train to Jaisalmer,on to Udaipur and then Ranthambhor.Not sure how,but then we'll train or fly to Kerala with whatever time we have remaining. In great anticipation!
Sound realistic?

Forget the Golden Triangle and go direct to Kerala, after Kerala you can spend few days in Udaipur and Jaisalmer and back to Delhi.

Thinking Utteranchal (Almora/Binsar/Kausani) might be better than Dharamsala for Himalayas experience.Leaving for Delhi on Sunday.Any suggestions for guesthouse near Train station toKathgodam(Or)Is it better to get a driver to get to Almora?

Train is more comortable, and cheaper. Best way is to hire a car from Haldwani/Kathgodam to Almora.
Don't know if you will get train tickets last minute, though.

A drive from Delhi is more expensive (if just one or two people) and a little tiring; the 'good parts' start after Haldwani anyway.

The other option is to hire a car from Delhi and back to Delhi. worthwhile if you are a few people, and plan to roam around in Uttaranchal.

How easy is it to include a side trip to Varanasi before/after Almora?.After that we plan to go to Jaisalmer.I'm assuming we go back to Delhi for an overnighter train to Jaisalmer.Then on to Udaipur and Ranthambor befor somehow catching a flight from Jodhpur(?) to Kochi.Make any sense?
