Rasjasthan and Goa- Oct 2006- need help planning

hello, I need some advice in planning a trip to Rajasthan and Goa.
There are 4 of us going
Leave at the end of Sept
We have a taxi driver that will take us from delhi to punjab - back to delhi - to agra and to rajasthan.

I have only 7 days in Rajasthan!!! The itinerary is as follows:
Oct 8-9: Jaipur
Oct 10: Jaipur to Udaipur (drive)
Oct 11: Udaipur
Oct 12 : Udaipur - Jodhpur (drive)
Oct 13 : Jodhpur
Oct 14 : Jodhpur - Jaisalmer (drive)
Oct 15 : Jaisalmer -Jodhpur (drive and later fly to Goa the same day)

I was thinking of skipping Udaipur and staying in Jaisalmer longer....I have no idea which city requires more time. And which city has been hyped. I know one and half days is not long enough - as long as we cover the major sites!

Also does anyone know which part of Goa to stay in? So many choices!!! We are in Goa for 4 days

I appreciate all the help I can get!!!

I would skip Jaisalmer and spend more time in Udaipur unless you were planning on doing a camel safari for a few days.

my opinion take out the full day in Jodhpur, drive one day Udaipur / Jodhpur - stop in Ranakpur of course..., then next day drive Jodhpur/Jaisalmer, and have an extra night in Jaisalmer, although it is a BLOODY long way to go for just a couple of nights....

the camel safari is the reason for travelling to jaisalmer -

isn't that a lot of back tracking? and isn't the drive to jodhpur and udaipur around 6 hours? and jodhpur to jaisalmer the same amount?

i will consider reducing the stay in jodhpur

THANKS!!!!

its a good itinary I'd stick to it, as far as Ranakpur its okay on the road from Udaipur to Jodhpur but I wouldn't stay overnight se the Jain temple dont stop at the rug weavers they are in tears if you dont buy. Udiput is probably the best bet to stay longest...have you booked accomodation there yet?

no we haven't booked any accomodations yet!!! I keep reading reviews and looking at prices - some places are pretty expensive! i was told to wait and when we get there then to find a place - the taxi driver is know by the family so he won't rip us off.

however i would feel more comfortable if we booked prior to departure

does jodhpur have flights to Goa?

Hi, There are no direct flights to Goa from Jodhpur, you can fly to mumbai from Jodhpur and take another flight to Goa from Mumbai.
Good Luck!!!

Is there any way to cross into Pakistan by camel in these areas? Or do people just take a taxi in? How far is the Indo Pak border from here. Thanx.
