What is the best way to travel to Khajurao from sawai madhopur
(Ranthambore) by train, bus or taxi? Should we stay one night in Orchha?
Thanks for help.

Dear craztravel,

As of now, there are NO direct trains between Sawai Madhopur. But 2182 Dayodaya Express (*** runs daily) connects Sawai Madhopur with Saugor. I can see from the Map, that Saugor should be around 150 Kms. away from Khajuraho and, Khajuraho is 167 Kms. away from Jhansi, considered to be the nearest Railhead for Khajuraho.
---
The following is the schedule of 2182 Dayodaya Express:-
4 SWM SAWAI MADHOPUR 1 19:20 19:40 132 1
5 KOTA KOTA JN 1 21:00 21:20 240 1

Hi, Better take train to Agra from Ranthambhore then take taxi so you can visit Gawalior fort and museum and stay in Orcha as there is no direct train to Khajuraho from Agra

A taxi from Sawai Madhopur to Khajurao will take about 8 hours via Jhansi. Jhansi is about 250 kilometers from Sawai Madhopur and Khajurao is another 150 kilometers from there. Orcha is just a few kilometers from Jhansi and it is worth it staying there for one night.

Thanks Ranthambhore. I may do reverse journey from Jhansi to
Sawai Madhopur. What would be the cost of taxi/car oneway journey? We are two in our party.
THANKS

I would go to Orchha and stay a day or two before, moving on to Khajurao, You can get there via Agra, then onto Jhansi and from there's it just 18 Kms by bus!! Wonderful place SSoomuch nicer than Khajurao.
To get to Khajurao you will need to go back to Jhansi, there;s one bus that leaves from opposite Jhansi Station! The train ride between Agra and Jhansi is interesting as you chug through the rain eroded ravines of the Chambal and look out for Datia and Sonigir alonf the way, nice fort and mountain top Jain temple complex respectively.

The Journey from Ranthambore to Orchha will take about seven hours I guess!!
