Rajasthan vs. Agra/Varanasi

Dear all,
after a wonderful and inspiring trip in the South of India last August, this year I am coming to the North. Now, I have unfortunately only 10 days to spend, after arriving by plane in Delhi. I am dubious if I should better visit Rajasthan or either do not miss Agra or Varanasi. I beg a piece of advice from you. And what about the weather in Aug?? Will it rain all time?
Thanks

don't know about the weather, but Rajasthan is a must! Specially if you like to see palaces and fortresses. And you can include Agra. I spent 14 days including Udaipur, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ranakpur, Jaisalmer.. etc. Udaipur and Jaisalmer were the best, followed by Jaipur. In fact Udaipur is my favorite, don't miss it!!!

They told me monsoon has not been so strong in Udaipur in the last years, that's why the water level is reduced in the lake, but confirm weather info anyway.

Agra is easy to combine with a Rajasthan excursion, but please don't try to do all of Rajasthan in 10 days. Better to save Varnassi for another trip, unless you can fly. It you can fly then you could do Delhi- Agra- Jaipur by car/bus/train and then fly to Varnassi for a few days.

I would skip Varanasi

With all respect to everyone in this forum, I didn't like Varanasi. It's the dirtiest city I've ever seen, the most chaotic also, and way off the fantasy I had for the most sacred city. As you see, I didn't find what many others have. Highly overrated in my opinion. On the contrary, I enjoyed Rajastan very much, along with Agra.

I agree that Varanasi is very dirty. It wasn’t what I had expected of an acclaimed holy city... But, I really liked the city for many other reasons. For one, it was fascinating to observe how intensely involved the locals are with the Ganga, whether it be washing the clothes, performing puja, or bathing. I enjoyed wandering through the narrow alleys lined with clothes shops and watching chai/lassi/sweet in the making. It was also nice to just chill at one of the quieter ghats and collect my thoughts. There are also guesthouse restaurants overlooking the Ganga, which makes sweet sunrise/sunset views. I think Varanasi has a magical atmosphere which I haven’t experienced anywhere else in India.

Weather

Must add that the weather was really crappy when I was there, so I didn't have the sunrise/sunset experience.

Day 04 Pushkar/Jaipur
Day 05 Jaipur/Agra
Day 04 Agra/Khajuraho (Train)
Day,05 Khajuraho
Day 06 Khajuraho/Varanasi(Air)
Day 07 Varanasi/Rishikesh (Train)
Day 08 Rishikesh/Haridwar

Your 10 day Itinerary seems to be more like 12,,,
But even so the logistics of a tour like this is very hard to put into practice, You allow no days in case something goes wrong like sickness or cancellation/late running of transport. and no time at all to get to know the place you are in,
You'll be thinking so much about where you're going to be tomorrow that you won't be appreciating today,,,,,,,,,,,,

Trim the tour, take it easy, don't just tick the boxes get to know the place as well.
Happy Travelling
