Question Rajasthan & Goa Itinerary advice please

Hi All

I'm planning a first trip to India with my husband & wondering how my initial itinerary looks?
We plan on going in Mid February. For about 17 days.
We want to mix seeing lots of things with some time for recovery & relaxation, & a mix of budget & luxury. (for info we're 29/30 age)

Delhi 3 days, travelling to Agra in the evening of 3rd day.
Agra 1 day for sunrise Taj Mahal & Fatehpur Sikri travelling on to
Jaipur 2 days with overnight train to
Jodphur 2 days heading to:
Chhatra Sagar nr Nimaj/Pali 2 nights (to chill out etc)
Udaipur 2 days
Udaipur to Goa (flight via Mumbai)
Goa for 4/5 days before flying back to London via Mumbai.

I was thinking to hire a car/driver for Delhi to Jaipur, & again for Jodphur to Udaipur.
We want to experience an Indian train journey at least once.

Please advise your thoughts on the Itinerary? if you would add more/less time anywhere? Other/better ideas for transport between these places? Other places to add/replace? (there are another 2 days that could be added in there)(also i'm not set on Chhatra Sagar but it looks lovely for a bit of time out between cities etc - any other similar suggestions appreciated)

Many Thanks

To make the most of 17 days, I think you worked it out just excellently.

Just go for it I'd say. Let us know later how you liked it

The Konkan Railway line from Goa to Mumbai is said to be very scenic, although I'm not sure if the most scenic part of it is south or north of Goa (I've recently done it, but mostly by night... ) Anyway, you could try and get a daytime train for the leg back to Mumbai, to give you a nice train ride. Book well in advance, it's a popular route.

The only potential issue I can see is in your plan to see the Taj at sunrise. I was there in January and it was impossible to see the Taj through all of the morning fog. I don't know if the winter fog is still an issue in mid-Feb, perhaps someone else could answer that, but you'll probably need to be flexible about those plans which is true of traveling in India in general.

Thumbs up Chhatra Sagar

Chhatra Sagar is a great choice. We were there in 2008 and we are going again in March 2010. The tents are super-comfortable, the situation on the dam is mind-blowing and the food and service are second to none. You can certainly chill out watching the birdlife on the lake and strolling round the shore and the free sundowners on the hill are memorable. Honestly, whatever changes you make to your itinerary, don't miss out Chhatra Sagar.
