Rajasthan A->B

A common thread on IM is trying to find the best way to connect the main highlights in Rajasthan for a short (2-3 week trip). I've spent a lot of time and IM has helped me a lot, I think the following is a fairly efficient approach. Can anyone suggest improvements? It seems like a lot of people struggle with all of the options for this itinerary.

Start in New Delhi
New Delhi -> Agra Cant (2002 Bhopal Shatabdi - CC) (6:15 to 8:17)
Hire car for day and get dropped in Bharatpur around 8pm
Bharatpur -> Udaipur (2963 Mewar Exp - 2AC) (21:31 to 07:00)
Udaipur -> Jodhpur (Private car via Ranakpur) (Morning to late afternoon)
Jodhpur -> Jaisalmer (4059 Jsm Dli Exp - SL) (06:20 to 13:00) - I chose this instead of overnight because overnight leaves very late and arrives around 5am so probably won't get much sleep and then have to walk around until can check into hotel
Jaisalmer -> Jaipur (4060 Jsm Dli Exp - 2AC) (16:00 to 04:50)
Jaipur -> New Delhi (many options, around 5 hours)
Leave New Delhi

This is a good direct way of getting about - agree with you re overnight train to Jaisalmer. The last time I did this about 4 years ago I felt 'sick' from lack of sleep and getting up at 5 a.m. when my normal wake-up in winter is 7 a.m. and summer 6.15.

The only thing I would say about your post is that 2 - 3 weeks is more than enough time to do a fuller coverage of areas you have left out, if you combine with a hire car. Places like Shekawati, Bundi, Kota, area, small villages with stunning accommodation like Basi Fort, Castle Bijaipur (between Chittaugarh and Jaipur / Pushkar).

The beauty about Rajasthan is that wherever you go the 'look' of the place changes - different styles of building for villages, each major city has a totally different look about it - buildings different colours, building materials different etc. This is one of the stunning attractions of here, you travel to another place and you will see new things.

A useful post however for getting from major points to major points, but readers should check what is between those points and may like to stop and visit!!
