pushkar!

I would change Agra with Pushkar..
Taj Mahal is always in the postcards... Pushkar is a still easy-jump in the hindu flavour..

:-) We are going to Pushkar. That's one of our "between cities" destinations.

Thanks OceanT! Yes it was Amber fort and that memory comes back very clearly now.

Your itinerary looks perfectly doable, AJSHamburg - have a wonderful trip.

Btw, everyone needs to compare with previous experieces..
Well firstly I must let you know that its not me who said that, perhaps you should have sued Rudyard Kipling for saying this....huh.
And secondly does it always require a physical visit to somewhere to know about that place?
My bad didn't go to moon as well to see if it actually has craters
And now coming to Hamburgs plan, yes your plan seems rocking though mostly what you are covering is kind of in the same Liege [Jaipur,Jodhpur,Bikaner].
However I believe you would make up for the loss in your way,
so BON VOYAGE.

Not quite sure what you mean about 'liege', samrat - do you mean 'league' and that these places are rather similar? If this is the case I would disagree. I am often saying that every city in Rajasthan is different from another, and has its own unique quality, and look about it.

Within Jaipur, Jodhpur and Bikaner, there are some very different elements - the palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal, and Amber Fort etc. in Jaipur are quite unique. Jodhpur's Fort is brilliant, one of the best in India, IMO. And Bikaner is more of a 'desert' city, sprawling, but the the palace and fort are different yet again. A visit to Gajner on the drive to Jaisalmer is a nice diversion as well. And there's the rat temple for those who are fascinated by this kind of thing.

Yes Aishah I did mean league only..& yes I do agree that each city of Rajasthan is quite different though its my personal experience that when I went for a big hunt of Rajasthan cities, after traveling to Jaipur then Jodhpur & then to Bikaner ,it felt a little monotonous to see the forts & Palaces again & again though being different.Whereas Jaisalmer,Udaipur & Mount Abu have something significantly distinct to offer in terms of Desert,Lakes & Hills respectively.

I know I'll be virtually stoned to death when I post this, but we're not going to Udaipur, purely for geographical reasons.

Our tour looks like this now (start/end in Delhi):

Agra
Jaipur
Jodhpur
Jaisalmer
Bikaner

The itinerary includes sights around and between those cities as well. And our driver is said to be a better guide than a professional guide so we expect to see/experience some "off the beaten track" things as well. And it allows us to spend a couple of days in each place without being soooo rushed. I know it's still a tight itinerary for 10 days.

As it's our first time visiting India, I think everything we see will amaze us and I can't imagine that our tour will be less fascinating or impressive by missing Udaipur this time. Based on your responses Udaipur must be an amazing place. All the more reason to visit it next time we're there!
Excellent!! Despite all the commotion here, you've come up with a very workable itinerary for 10 days.

Bikiner is quite a boring town BUT it has one of the finest forts I've ever seen. I was very surprised at how wonderful it was. You can also nip over to Deshnok and have a visit to the famous & unique Karne Mata Rat Temple (click on my signature below for a short video. It's about the 24th picture down). If you have time, you can drive out to the Camel Research Center & around 4pm watch hundreds of camels come in from the fields. Amber Fort in Jaipur is wonderful, and Meherengarh Fort in Jodhpur is outstanding. Any place that offers you a headset to listen to information, take it, it's worth the extra rupees!

Be sure to see Fatipur Sikri when you are in Agra. I happen to like Agra Fort also but I don't know how much time you'll have.

I personally like all the places you've picked. If you like India, you can come back again & see Udaipur. It's not possible to see every great place, it's better not to rush then to try to cram in too much.

Have a great time!
